A LUCKY contestant picked all the right boxes to win £20,000 on a TV game show.
Jay Wade, 39, of Elmsleigh Drive, Leigh, appeared on Channel 4’s Deal Or No Deal and bagged the cash by choosing box number 21, his lucky number.
The delivery driver said playing the game and sharing jokes with host Noel Edmonds was a great experience.
He said: “To come away with £20,000 was unbelievable.
“It was good meeting Noel because I remember him from TV when I was a bit younger.
“We had some excellent banter and a lot of that was based around me being an Essex boy. The whole experience was great.”
Mr Wade added: “The position I was in half way through the game, it didn’t look like I was going to win anything.
“I didn’t have a system and just picked the boxes randomly.”
Mr Wade, who grew up in Wickford, is using the money to kit out his new Leigh home.
But he had to wait an agonising 28 days after he won to tell his friends and family, because of legal reasons.
He said: “Lots of people were asking me how I did and I couldn’t say a word until I got the cheque through. It was a nightmare.”
Mr Wade appeared on 22 shows, as a contestant who guards one of the boxes, before he was eventually chosen to play.
