I would like to pose a question to those on this forum who have in real life "played the game"...

How much impact of the games of those around you had on the game you played?

Did a particularly good or bad game make you approach your game differently than you would have before appearing on the show?

There have been replies from 2 contestants to this thread, but due to an error when tidying up the thread these posts were split by mistake...

I have quoted the replies made by ex-contestants Lisa, and Andy K

lisa wrote:
The short answer to that is "Yes"!! I played the day after Trevor (1p) and Mike's (£1) games were filmed and their outcomes had a big impact on how I played my game as i was determined not to walk with a blue. I said I had a feeling my box contained a low blue and was pleased that was not edited out. Before going down to Bristol, I was going all the way but when you are involved in games like that, it does alter the way you play your own game.

Deffo. I played the day after 10p Raj- a nicer bloke you could not meet. He had a car crash game and I believe it was the first time everyone realised the reality of a low win (previous lowest had been £1500 I think) I offered Raj £200 (the bankers offer with 10p and £500 left) if he were to end up with the 10p. Noel made me open his box. This subsequently meant they could not edit out what I said. This I beilieve, resulted in me being bumped up the order and playing next- I was on and off in 14 shows. The rest as they say is history.

Yes, definitely. I was on the wings when Don played and at he was offered £10k and no dealt - in fact I was the only one who said he should deal and I was made to look liek a wimp for saying it.

Anyway he no dealt and went away with £250 (I think) - it was just awful and he was really down about it.

That stuck in my head because he could have had a really nice sum. At the end of the day I think it is not so much about gambling more aout coming away with the best deal for yourself at the time.

The audience always say to no deal - however I look at the board in a what if you took out your top 2 boxes sort of way.

Pam

I hope the gamblers look at this thread as it only serves to validate what I've been saying...those trainwreck games that were 24 hours earlier to us were just a few hours earlier to the players and do indeed impact games.

It's called human nature, and contestants are human, as much as some people would care to think otherwise.

Thanks, Kestral, for your assistance and to the players for their input. .

I'm surprsied to her that about Don, Pam - he seemed to take winnining a blue better than most, he seemed quite cheerful and non-plussed about it on-screen!

BUMP:

Given that there are a goodly number of former contestants on the board now, I'd like to get your feeling on my question.
I ask this particularly in the light of the back-to-back 250k blowing shows...

£250k, actually. Which is about $500k!

But yes, it does seem that this happens. I think it was evident in January 2007 the other way round too - and apparently Don's self-inflicted trainwreck was something Pam noticed and was determined to avoid.

I think it takes a strong character to play their own game regardless. This can mean playing aggressively after a blue win - or playing safe after a huge win, the archetypal example being Jeannie who dealt at eight-box after a Wakeyistic £50k win from Barry the previous day (and in the face of the very worst of Wakeyistic Noel too!).

I wonder whether the rest of this week sees someone suddenly throwing on their Wakeyist hat in light of the huge boards and hugely cautious Deals of the month so far!

It didn't make any difference to me. Once I started, everything else blurred out and it was just me and the boxes. I was third in the day and the first show had been very good (25K), the second a blue win, so I had no preconceptions.

I can honestly say I didn't care about anybody else when I played my game. I'd seen some awful games but that was my one chance and I was going for it! I played the game how I always said I would whilst watching it at home and that was the most important thing to me.

If that's the case, I'm really looking forward to your game, Wendy. I hope there aren't too many awful games between the series returning and you playing!
