I've noticed in the threads there are some contestants who, either in their time in the wings, on their game or after their game, that they have somehow tagged with the "black sheep" label.

That said, fortunately, there aren't too many of those, and I'd say the percentage of such is I believe to be about 1% or so.

Which contestants would you say has become a "black sheep" and why?

It'd help if you explained what 'black sheep' meant.

Janelle was the original one.

I heard that some lady called Thanh was as well, but this was during a period when I didn't watch the show. Although I think the juiciest one has to be £17k Emma from April this year, who was slated by a number of contestants here.

Paul M from May 07 wasn't popular either, and there's probably a number of others.

I didn't know that about Paul M...he seemed such a bland, inoffensive guy, can't imagine what that was about. :?

I remember Pennie saying she had problems with Trevor and Sally, as well as the obvious Janelle...don't know if that was just her or the whole group though.

Neither Trevor, nor Sally seemed popular, so it could be a group thing.

Did Sally not seem popular? I can't remember now really but I thought people were upset at her game...Trevor only did 13 or so shows so I guess it's likely he wasn't too popular.

"Black sheep" in the conventional sense, according to wiktionary definition #3... (idiomatic) a disliked person; one who is disfavored.

Disliked and disfavored depends on one's interpretation of that definition.

Now, I haven't seen many episodes on television (or other format) since I am on the other side of the pond, but this is from what I've gathered based on a mix of forums.

Some people say that Geordie (Gerry R) somehow falls in that category. I wouldn't really put him in that category myself, even tho the guys at the "cutthroat" forum might differ.

As for the short-run players, I also noticed that Vaughan was treated with scorn there too, and CJ (who didn't get to play) definitely might be one that falls in that category. Some apparently didn't like original Colin (appeared in 13 games) from May 2006, but I'd admit he was quite amusing in his game, as in a bit of "Mad" Sarah.

As for Thanh, I'd disagree, since being a bit quiet doesn't really equate to being a "black sheep." Sometimes being quiet may play in your favor when one is in the chair, as the Banker would have nothing to go on.

Max from May 2006 was sort of bordering on being one (according to a different site) with her antics on the show, even tho I never saw it, just read the summaries of it.

Some dislike Andy K from November 2005, and would equate him there, but I wouldn't myself. I think he saved a lot of his "obnoxiousness" to "vent" at the Banker as revenge for Original Raj's game the day before, and he did it in his favor by seriously tripping up the Banker to a £20k OPW with a blue in his box. The proveout round, was simply dishing out vengeance as it should be dished out to the Banker.

Thanh was disliked because apparently she didn't bother to make an effort to socialise.

Being quiet during the actual games may be to your advantage, but being quiet and anti-social when the cameras have stopped rolling won't do you any favours with your fellow contestants. In that sort of situation, I think it's only polite to make some sort of effort.

It's not being quiet that makes people unpopular. Some of the quiet people were the loveliest. But like you say, not mixing or being arrogant or obnoxious in front of , or away from the camera doesn't endear anyone to the other contestants.
The production team generally want everyone to contribute to the games and encourage a team spirit, but with some people, it's just not possible.

Dear All there were no Black Sheep as you put it when I was on the Show .We all got on great together. They were a lovely crowd. There was never any backbiting. I think we actually had the best of times. The Hotel was great, food wonderful, and the atmosphere among the staff was great. The ground Staff at the Studio were a superb bunch of guys. Everyone in their own way helped us to have a wonderful time. I would not have missed it for anything. However the "Powers that be" in their wisdom decided to change hotels. I say ...if it ain't broken --don't fix it.. Pat M :D :D :D

Hi Pat M, I don't watch this version when it comes out fresh since I am across the pond in the USA, so I only catch this version online.

I did notice from the stats here tho that during your run of games, there have been some pretty short runners in there (such as Francesca, Michael and Maxine), but these I believe are due to reasons beyond their control (eg work schedules).
