Nice one ;), glad it is still being done! I originally started it as I was unsure where the very early players stood on the wings, and worked it out from Dave's original screwthebanker spreadsheet :P

Just one point on this, I know there's some debate on how we should treat spelling variations etc. in terms of the numbering - but I don't think current Jon should be "Jon (9)" as that spelling is generally short for Jonathan, so technically a different name!

Is John not short for Jonathan then?!

Hmm we need to come to some sort of agreement as to how they're all numbered anyway, as everyone seems to do different things. (And I think I myself switch between the two systems...)

The ever reliable Wikipedia wrote:
Jonathan is not a variation of John, but a longer version of Nathan.

Wow, you learn something new every day!

It's difficult really, for example it definitely feels right that Jeff and Geoff are separate - I mean, they don't even start with the same letter - but on the other hand all the slightly different spellings of Lyn(d)sey etc, I wouldn't be able to say which one was which without looking it up, so putting them in the same numerical order seems to make sense!

It is a bit of an issue...

I myself only use the numbers for players with the exact same spelling of name, and not for variations on spelling.

eg - I don't class Rachael with the Rachel's.
I don't class Jon with the John's.
I don't class Leigh with the Lee's.
I don't class Pennie with the Penny's.
I don't class Alain with the Alan's.
I don't class the Jayne's with the Jane's.
I don't class Geoff with the Jeff's.
I don't class Juliah with Julia.
I don't class Jackee with Jackie.
I don't class Jenny with Jenni.
I don't class Lynne with the Lynn's.
I don't class Lyndsey or Lindsay with the Lynsey's.
I don't class Stephen with Steven.
I don't class Theresa with Teresa.
etc.

What do people think? What way should we class it, our shall we continue doing it our own ways?

I just do it this way because that's how Jonny, who originally kept up this list, used to do it...I would probably rather keep just the exact spellings together, but as Power5 says, people less sad than me probably don't instantly know who is who just based on the spellings. :? Maybe a poll is in order...

We do need some rules, I think.

As well as different spellings, there's the shortened versions of the same name, such as Dave/David, or James/Jim, or even Rob/Bob! :)

A poll would perhaps be a good idea, my only issue is would we have to change to use numbers for variants on spelling if the forum votes in favour of it? That would confuse the hell out of me, as I've learnt the numbers only according to exact spellings, and would hate to learn them again with variants...

I think I've come round to the idea that we should treat all the different spellings as separate names. So if, for example, we got contestants called Bunny and Buddey, they'd be classed as new names rather than having a (2) after them on your list.

After all, you've already done that for the very different spellings like Jeff and Geoff!

Is anyone massively opposed to that idea? I'm not particularly bothered either way so if everyone agrees with that then I'll change them all.

So most recent Penny is 2 and not 3, and Pennie is on her own then? OK by me, as long as I can get used to it! :)

I'd agree with that, it gets confusing seeing 'Jayne 4' and 'Alain 5' but I've accepted it as that's simply how it's always been done! Would agree with the change, though, much simpler.

OK it's done....I've probably missed someone out somewhere along the line, though, so let me know if there's anything that doesn't add up...

This is going to sound incredibly anal, but I noticed that Mark W, Mark A and Mark P have their initials missing (even though they did only have the initials on their badges for 1 or 2 shows), and Debbie (1) from E2 is missing the (1)! :)
