This should be really interesting! I started watching from show 1 and by show 300 I was a regular on both here and the chatroom, but the moment I went from 'big fan' to 'super mega huge fan' was in about December, in the run up to the £500k shows and games like Claudine's. I've never even attempted to do a list like this before, but here goes anyway! Starting at number 11:

Marcus
March 2006. It was between him or fellow March '06-er Lucy to be here, but I think Marcus just nudges into the top 11. This is why W5 rocked all socks in that first run of shows, you had contestants like this, ones who got an hour-long special and turned their game into The Marcus Show! The highest rated episode of Deal or No Deal ever, and even though he did go too early at £31,000, I don't care cus he rules! I wish they'd hurry up and repeat it!

Hannah
September 2006. What? No, it's not because I fancied her. Ok I fancied her. But it wasn't just that, she was pretty AND entertaining, who can forget that moment where she took off the lucky hat and threw it on the floor, causing Noel to start crying and call a break, or when she got everyone to do a kerazy, wigglified sweep, and then say that she already knew what she was going to do, she just wanted to see everyone wiggle! Even when it was repeated this year her game made me emotional, I remember so wanting her to take those last few offers (as poor as they were) because I so did not want her to win a blue. She didn't, she pulled off the turnaround of the century and won £10,000, and the very well done to her! Lucky Steve...

October 2006. There was something about Brummie Lisa that I absolutely adored. She was always smiling, always totally behind the player, you got this sense that she absolutely loved being there, and I was so hoping that she'd have a game as brill as she was. Well...no. Her game went horribly wrong and reduced her to tears, and with just £100 won it's still one of the most upsetting games I've ever seen. But I'll always remember her for being so cool!

October 2006. Someone who basically just says 'Break a leg' a lot doesn't sound like one of the best players ever, but we're talking Jeff here, who was part of an amazing era for memorable contestants. And then proved even more so in his game, the 'Noel Sandwich' line was legendary, and blimey, £64,000 he won as well!

Giorgio
July 2006. "Thank you for coming to see Play Your Cards Right!" The incredible Italian who made hats cool again, he oozed awesomeness, even when he couldn't remember what day it was ("Giorgio, what will you be doing with your Sunday?" "With my what?"). He closed Season 1, and, erm, won a penny. His game may have sucked but he didn't!

Mad Sarah
March 2006. "If I take out the pound, the Banker will be unable to calculate the offer!" The 'Mad' prefix was never used on the show but I can't imagine her name being used without it, a lot say this was the all-time classic era of the show and she just immediately comes to mind. On the wings she predicted offers of £350,000, and on her game, well, what to say, I think what sums it up is her opening offer of 'A pretzel minus a duck plus three doughnuts'! £27,000 was her reward and it was a fabulous Banker

November 2005. I know it only consisted of 52 shows but he was the best contestant of that year, and I have to put him up this high because there's never been anyone like him since. None of this "Thank you Mr Banker, it's an excellent offer" tosh, instead we had "It's quite frankly insulting that he should drop 6 on that board". He'd revealed the 10p in Jennifer's game and gave £200 to Raj after he had his trainwreck, and in his game he totally beat the Banker and won £20,000. A very very love-or-hate contestant but I'm definitely the former!

May 2006. It was such a simple but brilliant idea, say a rhyme before opening the box, but boy was he awesome, a huge character during Spring '06. I was so looking forward to his game, and when it happened, oh man, oh
man oh man, what a game it was! The end of what I'd call the first 'golden era' of the show, there was that slight moment where I did actually wonder, was this going to be it, were we going to get an unspoiled £250k win? No we weren't, but £20,000 was still a good sum for this classic player!

October 2006. I'd settled on my top two but after that it got a bit tricky, but I've put Harry at number 3 as not only was he a legendary contestant, but he was responsible for the best LTL voiceover in history ("Hi! Harry here AGAIN!!" "Or even ten THOUSAND POUUUNDS!!"). And he had a corker of a game, I seriously thought he'd blown it when he dealt at the third offer of £20,000 (erm, again...I promise it isn't intentional!), but he totally destroyed the board after this for a stunning tax-free OPW!

August 2006. The weird thing is that I still think of him as a recent player, when by this time he definitely isn't! Him and Giorgio were the two characters that summer, and once Giorgio played it was just him. And in one of the most sensational games ever, he didn't disappoint winning an incredible £87,000!
Which leaves my number 1 contestant to be announced, who is, the amazing, the legendary, the magnificent...

May 2006. Simply the greatest gameshow contestant of all-time. I can't elaborate on that, she WAS Deal or No Deal after Lucy's game and remained so for over a month. And then she has a trainwreck and wins a grand, go figure. The fact that she only came 13th place in the original contest shows what a total shambles it was.
Phew, that took ages! 301 to 600 to do next...when I can be bothered!
