Yeh, I'm pretty sure the last show is Sat-22-Jul, and the first one after the summer break is Mon-28-Aug.

Does anyone else think this is either going to make or break the future of the show? People get into a nice habit of watching DOND and stick to it but once it is broken up for a long period, how keen will people be to go back to it?

Obviously DOND will have it's regulars and people who will be counting down the days until it comes back on air, but I wonder about those who aren't as keen but watch out of routine/habit. When they get into a new mode, will they switch back to watch DOND? Guess that'll tell us just how good/popular the show is.

It also depends what they show in the 4:15 slot when DOND isn't on... and also what ITV1 shows in the same slot. And you have to remember that DOND also gets a certain number of viewers who stay on C4 after watching Countdown, and then there are the school children who watch it when they get home from school, etc., so I don't think the summer break will be a problem for DOND. At least DOND can't be accused of overkill.

yeah, that's a good idea...but you know they'll just show something like location, location, location or something in an earlier slot...

I think it really will be a question of absence makes the heart grow fonder. If the show didn't have a break it would have a shorter shelf life. IMO it needs to have 3 series for the year, with breaks of 4 weeks just after Christmas and Easter and 5 weeks for the summer. That would still be over 230 shows for the year at least, and they could do more double episode a day special weeks in the week leading up to Christmas, and June or July which seemed to work well during the first week of the World Cup.

I'm hoping that should it be off for 5 weeks, then they can fill the gap by showing repeats of classic DOND episodes from the past year.

25th August is cited as the return date. Though the 28th is a Monday, so it would seem to make more sense.

I just checked the RadioTimes website, as they have schedules for up to two weeks in advance, and the listing for Mon-24-Jul at 4:15pm states: To Be Announced, so clearlythe last DOND for the summer is Sat-22-Jul, as has been suggested and speculated!!!

Perhaps, as has also been suggested, they'll show classic DOND episodes? They did this when Richard and Judy have been off air over the summer in the past, they either played complete episodes, or played specially compiled "best bits" shows, which obviously took R&J five minutes to record, as they just sit there saying "And this clip is from [whatever], when we interviewed [whoever]", etc. Perhaps there'll be a DOND's best bits programme?

Watch this space...

I hope they do! I know people would say it's pointless...but it's a much better idea than "classic" episodes of Richard and bloomin' Judy.

Well, exactly. But I think they only did that when R&J were off for the summer, but I think they're on through the summer this year as Paul O'Grady's sharing the 5pm slot for some of the year as well.

The schedule from Mon-24-Jul (when DOND's summer break starts) would now appear to be this:

Up until 3:45pm - Film
3:45pm - 4:30pm Countdown
4:30pm - 5:00pm Come Dine With Me
5:00pm - 6:00pm Richard & Judy

However,o n More4, they still seem to be showing DOND at 6:10pm (and 7:10pm on More4+1). Will they be showing old episodes, or have they given the RadioTimes website the wrong scheduling information?! Mmm... :?
