There was never a commentary on here for this game as the forum started on the day this game was shown - so I might as well do a commentary for reference!

Nick Bain from the east wing played on his 22nd show.

He's from Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, and didn't have a system.

Box 5 is the box he is playing with - I think we all know the outcome of this game!

4 - £500

Nick asks who had the £250k yesterday...

9 - £750

22 - £50,000 - "Whey we didn't want to see that!" says Noel.

He explains how one of his power 5 has gone, but he still has the top three.

1 - £5,000 - Noel says it's ok

"2 blues, 2 reds, this is the decider" Noel adds.

8 - £5 - "The amount that Irene went away with yesterday, you cannot go away with" says Noel - he also adds "So you could be the first person to go away with 1p", and says how we've had a 10p winner.

The banker phones...

I reckon that nowadays, with a first round like that, the first offer would have been 10 times that amount!

The banker says he's delighted Nick is a poker player, as he is as well... Noel describes the offer as interesting.

The offer is £1,300.

He says he expected the offer to be higher - Nick think it's a terrible offer and says if he wants the banker to play, he will play.

Nick no deals...

15 - £1 - cheers - Noel says it's "perfect" and that we know £1 isn't in Nick's box!

There seems to be a background noise that sounds like water running. :? I think it's just interference actually!

17 - £250,000 - Nick says "It's gone now, but we mustn't dwell", "Yep!" says Noel.

12 - £50

Noel talks about "pokering around" and Nick says that he thinks the offer will increase... Noel keeps talking about the banker pokering Nick and Nick pokering the banker...

The phone rings and Noel asks the viewing audience if their phone is ringing too - and says we should check during the break!

Back after the break and Noel talks about how this could be a dramatic battle with the added element of poker playing.

The banker thinks Nick is using "table talk" - a term used in poker. Nick says that he is pretty sure that he will no deal, Noel thinks the same.

The second offer is £900.

"Remember, don't get seduced by the board" says Noel! Hahahaha!

Nick no deals.

Next round...

20 - £250 - Gavin - yay! (ahem)

2 - Liz says she's due a low box - £10

Noel says that he needs to avoid becoming the biggest loser and has to take out the 1p now!

I can hear the running water again. :?

10 - £15,000

The banker phones...

Noel says the banker is playing Nick now with his offer of £9,000.

Noel can't work Nick out... but says that he likes his smile!

He reminds Nick that there are 6 figures below the £9,000, and reminds him how Irene's game turned round for the worse the previous day and she won £5.

Noel says "Who won the FA Cup Final in 1922?"

Then asks him the real question!

Nick no deals...

The next round...

11 - £100,000 - "The highest number has gone! Total disaster!" says Noel.

There's definitely something funny about the sound in this game - either that or there's a burst pipe in the studio... or maybe they were installing a water feature at the time!

16 - £35,000

14 - Noel calls a break.

It's refreshing to see how Nick takes it all on the chin and keeps smiling even though his game is going horribly wrong

We're back...

14 - Noel asks if Nick wants to stick with 14 - he says he does - £20,000 - "Oohs" for that one - and a huge gap has now opened according to Noel!

"That round was as bad as the previous round was great" Noel remarks.

The banker phones...

The banker wants Nick to leave with £4,500 - Noel reminds Nick he won't see that again if he takes out the £75,000 in the next round.

Nick states how he thinks it's likely he'll take 2 of one colour and one of the other, and he needs to get it the right way round. He asks Terry's advice, who says it's a "one number game".

Nick no deals.

18 - £75,000 - "It is the very thing we don't want to see" says Noel, "and the groan says it all.".

The highest value on the board is now £10,000!

19 - Michael says they'll walk down the blue road - £1,000 - "Whee, that'll do" remarks Noel

13 - newbie Vaughan - Noel says how the newbies always have the big numbers - £10,000

Noel describes the round as disastrous.

Nick talks about how £3,000, the highest value remaining, is a lot of money to him and he wants to win that - and that he could also win 1p.

£3,000!

Ooh, and I forgot how cute Miguel was.

The banker phones...

Offer is £300.

Noel says it's the year of the banker! :?

Nick doesn't want to ask anybody, as it's all or nothing now and he no deals.

6 - £3,000

21 - 50p

7 - 10p

With a 1p vs £100 final two, the banker phones...

What is said now is what is in richie4eva1's signature - "Oh stop it! You can hear him laughing!".

The offer is £30 - Nick says that if it was £40, he'd have dealt!

He says how he could be the first person in the history of DOND who could win 1p and that his name will be used in a lot of other shows!

Noel says it's new territory to say "£30, Deal or no deal?"

Nick no deals...

The banker phones and offers the swap - Nick decides to swap his box 5 for box 3!

Nick's box is opened to reveal 1p - the first ever 1p winner!

£100 is revealed in Nick's original box.

Nick asks if he can get his phone out and enter the viewer's competition!

I hope some of the future players were watching that game as THAT is the way to behave when the chips are down.

Just keep on smiling and not break down in tears just because the mega money has gone

Kudos to Nick

Booooring!

Nick was a nice guy, and it was statistically an interesting game...but the lack of charisma and entertainment from everyone - including Noel and the Banker - is unbearable. In the early games they never showed the players on the wings, let alone hear them say anything interesting, so it is very dull!

A definite classic game. I remember at the time, it was difficult to think that someone ever could win 1p, let alone £250,000, and not only was Nick the first but eight other players since then have won it!

Incredible, really, how his board went from this:
Image
To this:
Image
And ending with this:
Image

Who else has taken out eight reds in a row? The only other I can think of is Psychic Sarah, who had the extreme opposite of his game.

It's actually set another Deal or No Deal first - as of today, every single player in the history of Deal or No Deal has had at least one of their shows repeated at least once. All of them had, thanks to the old and new More4 repeats, except Gavin - and now that Nick's game has been broadcast, he's no longer had to wait over a year for a single one of his games to be reshown!

Given that it's the first time this game has ever been repeated (More4 didn't start them until Jenna's, and the classic repeats ended with Jeff 1), it was really interesting seeing that 22 again, as I hardly remembered any of them. They were:

Gerry
Liz ("Deal or No Deal?" "I don't know!")
John (his 2nd show, he'd do 30 more)
Jenni (she played next, after seeing wins of £5 and 1p, no wonder she was the first third offer dealer!)
Alan
Lynsey
Robbie
Vaughan (the newbie)
Julie (biggest winner in that 22, she sold 1p for £33,000!)
Marie (had a board like Brenda's at one point, but it went horribly wrong, kept 1p to the end and got an OPL)
Miguel

Mumtaz (three Ms in a row!)
Dave
Gavin
Arlette
Gill
(Nick - Andrew would replace him, who's in the audience for this game)
Ann
Michael D
Pat (first ever successful swap - Nick's was only the second ever!)
Terry
Jenna (what a babe!)

I think it's Lucy 2 next week, although the vote had a 1% difference when the poll closed so you never know.
