I read about one of the games of Deal or No Deal:
On 26 June 2011, John (no name) had managed to remove 1p in his first box on his way to removing four of the banker's power five in the first round. After the fourth round John turned down £8,000 which was the same amount at Ted had turned down on the Friday before. In the middle of a gripping climax where John still had the £250,000, the banker gave out the 'Governor' £26,000, which John dealt at. It turned out that John had the top prize in his box. John revealed after the game that he was happy with the amount he won. On 10 July that year, Fred was left with £100,000 and £250,000 in his last five boxes , but could have won 50p and £750. The Banker handed out the Governor and Fred accepted. after the 750 was revealed, the Banker said he would have offered him 73p or £73,000 depending on the contents on his next box. The 100 was revealed. Fred's box was opened and it contained the quarter-million. Trivia:Fred would have been the first male quarter-millionare, the third from Wales, and the last contestant to accept the Governor, John had the top prize in his box as well.

So what the heck is a Governor in DOND?! :smt105

'The Governor' is simply one of the nicknames for the £26k offer (another being 'Old Faithful'), because so many players have accepted it and missed out on more money as a result.

There was a period not so long ago, though, when £16k was being accepted regularly - prompting Noel to refer to that offer as 'The New Governor'.

£26k is the true 'Governor' in the eyes of many, though... ;)

That's very odd, yet interesting.

I heard of those. Is the "Pound Table" the table the chosen contestant places their box on?
