This weekend sees one the biggest matches in the football season, at least from my point of view, when Everton host their lower league neighbours ( :D ) in the first derby of the season at Goodison. Ordinarily, I'd go into this match worrying how badly we'd get beaten but on the back of a strong start to the season, I'm feeling optimistic. I do think Everton can cause Liverpool problems at the back with Beattie's strength and Johnson's pace and Reina's hardly a safe pair of hands, but obviously Liverpool aren't exactly backwards in coming forwards either....

Anyway, I predict 2-1 to Everton and at least one sending off, if Mr Poll remembers that two yellows equal a red......

This game has come at the worst possible time for us. The international break was one thing but most of our players are involved in internationals tomorrow and Carragher, Riise and Sissoko are doubtful for the game on Saturday. I'll have everything crossed tomorrow night, praying none of our players get injured.

Everton have had a good start to the season, their best ever in the Premiership (well, they've matched their best start). These games are always difficult to predict and obviously my heart tells me to vote Liverpool. I think there will only be 1 goal in it and I'm confident we'll come away with 3 points.

Sissoko is the most likely player to be fit and early indications are that he'll make it. That'll be a massive boost for us. Otherwise I predict this lineup: (although no-one can ever predict who Rafa chooses. I wouldn't be surprised if Alonso sat this one out.)

--------------------------Reina---------------------

--Finnan---------Agger----Hyypia----Warnock--

--Gerrard-------Alonso-----Sissoko----Aurelio--

--------------------Crouch----Bellamy------------

Biggest match of the season???

I dont think so!! (Shrewsbury v Wrexham)

I like Liverpool but David Moyes was one of Shrewsbury's greatest player's (by the way Shrewsbury thrashed Everton in the FA Cup a few years ago)

I predict a 3 - 2 win for Liverpool

Thrashed???? A winning goal in stoppage time is hardly a thrashing! But yes, 'twas humiliating, made even worse by the fact you got relegated that season too.

Eugh, I don't know why Beattie isn't starting. Or Valente. Ok, we beat Spurs without them but Beattie & Johnson should be allowed to work on a partnership. I hate playing one up front at home!

Sorry, what? :D

Best. Game. Ever.

If anyone thinks Liverpool are going to win the League, based on that performance today, they'd be better off investing in a chocolate teapot. Obviously, I'm delighted with the way we played, controlled aggression and genuine pace up front, but Liverpool's defence was shambolic. Jose Reina again proved to me why he's the most overrated goalkeeper in the Premiership (the man at the other end was a much safer pair of hands) and Carragher simply wasn't fit, it seemed. But enough about Liverpool, this day belongs to Everton and I'm certainly going to enjoy bragging rights for the next few days :D :D
