David Beckham has quit as England captain after almost six years in the job in the wake of the World Cup quarter-final defeat by Portugal.

Pity he could not the new Manager with him.

He has been in the job almost a day and he hasnt won a single game!

Walked before he was pushed?

I think it's the right decision, time for a new captain in a new era. Apart from set pieces, Beckham offers England very little IMO now, it's time to build the team around someone else in the hope that it'll push this team on and win a European Championship or World Cup. Or at least get past the quarters.

David Beckham has been a good captain and a good player for England. He also had a good World Cup, but it is time for a fresh start, and young talent like Aaron Lennon. Becks is great at dead balls, but you need more than that, and he's not getting any younger.

He felt that the decision was right for him. To be honest, if John Terry takes over, at least he would try to inject some passion into his fellow players on the field.

yeah, Beckham was useless in terms of passion... maybe because he´s getting older now and less energetic...

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.
