Only under 30s can, apparently.

I can hear it, but I doubt my lecturer could. He did a hearing test the other day and found that he couldn't hear frequencies anymore that very very high - all this through playing a lot of music in bands etc...so wear ear plugs everyone!

During science lessons, there used to be a big TV in one particular lab that the teacher always forgot to turn off... and we always used to complain about the high pitched whining it made... a whining that he couldn't hear (he was in his late 40s at the time, I reckon). he explained how older people cannot hear the higher frequencies. And by the way, I can hear the noise fine in that link you posted, Steve!

Heard it absolutely fine, very clearly. And I'm 18.

My Dad couldn't, though, and he's 39.

I'm over 30 (just!) and i can hear it. It was about as pleasant as someone scraping their nails down the proverbial blackboard.
