As you know, I'm obsessed with trains and tubes and think it's high time that there was a thread all about them, so here it is.

Does anyone else here like travelling by train or tube? If not, why not? Also, have you travelled by train or underground abroad?

As for me, I've travelled by underground/metro/U-Bahn in London, Paris and Vienna and by train in the UK, France, Belgium and Germany.

IMHO, my favourite type of British train is the Intercity 225 (Class 43 loco, Mark 4 coaching stock and Driving Van Trailer) used on National Express East Coast services and the Northern line and its rolling stock (the 1995 stock) are the best of the London Underground!

Finally, the German ICE (InterCity Express) trains are the best of continental Europe!

So welcome aboard, fellow train and tube fans of dond.co.uk! :-D

I use the train to go to London, and use the Tube whilst there. I didn't used to like the Tube but now I'm used to it I like it more, and am able to navigate around it well (using a Tube map mostly, although I know a few simple routes from memory now).

I think The Tube in London has a lot of character as each station is so very different. I used the Metro in Paris when I was there in March, and it's rather weird. The trains run on big rubber wheels, and the whole underground smells of wood shavings. :?

Yes, dond, it's interesting to see where closed railway lines used to be. Bastogne in southern Belgium is no longer served by SNCB/NMBS and the old railway line is now a concrete footpath/cycle track.

BTW, even though I have a picture of one in my siggy, it's about time the Intercity 125s (Class 43 loco, Mk3 coaching stock and Driving Van Trailer) were withdrawn. They're over 30 years old now....

So? Are people here not allowed to have different interests from everyone?

I have to take the Tube soon. Well, maybe.
