Ditto.

As it's been 9 years since she won £21,000, I expect most of it has been spent.

If she had been playing in 2013, she'd be lucky to get anywhere near £21,000 on her board. The 5-box offer of £59,000 is just a complete lie!

I remember that she actually lied about her profession during the pre-game small chatter. She bumbled her through describing her role as a... construction yard assistant?? I think. Something trade related anyway. But someone, probably a chap with a raging horn, googled her name and found out she was a glamour model.

10 years ago, Dutchess Helen, infamous for her EXTREEEEEEEEEMLELY SLOOOOWWW BOOOOXXXX OOOOOPPEEENNNNIIIIINNNNGS on the wings, had a nightmare first two rounds losing all of the power 5 in the first two rounds!

But like Audrey and Rob earlier in the week, Helen turned it around in style and recovered to a £5k/£20k finish, where the banker made an unusual ABOVE AVERAGE offer of £13,000! :D Helen accepted the offer, but was denied a much-deserved OPW by finding the £20k on the table. Still another great result from a gamed that looked almost doomed in the early rounds!

I still think it's interesting how the original Helen, out of the 13 players to appear on the show with that name, was the only Helen to not stand in the east wing (Helen B from the second birthday still counts as an east-winger as she was in E1 for her first 3 shows, then went AWOL, and returned in W4)! :smt023

4 years ago yesterday was when poor Claire no-dealt a forcing offer of £8,500 on a 50p/£50k final 2 and went away with 50p! :(

10 years ago, Karen played on her 33rd show and was DoND's longest-serving player at the time. She wisely dealt at £17,500 at 8-box with just the £250k above it, but would've had £55k if she went another round! :? But it later proved to be a good decision in the end when £15k was revealed in her box

3rd January 2006

UK No.1: Shayne Ward - That's My Goal. (Other top 10 entries include James Blunt, Madonna, the recently chart toppled Nizlopi and Sugababes.)

DOND: 1p Nick

Image

Walk of impending wealth, or perhaps not!

Image

Wasn't doing all that bad at one point.

Image

And was offered a sizeable pocket of cash.

Image

But hope was snatched by the winds. ''Last eight I've had have been red, this has got to be blue'' stated Dave (spotlight will shine on him in two days time). Nope. His ninth consecutive red in the box and Nick's eighth consecutive red wiped off the board...

Image

...which was also the last one to hit. Terrible state of affairs.

Image

Nick didn't win it from his own box, he undertook a swap because box No.3 was his son's age. Good timing, we were close to an ultimately forgettable 'undred quid win.

Image

''Is the man from Clacton about to become the first Deal or No Deal 1p player...''

Image

''...yes! He has the honour!''

After Nick's classic trainwreck, and Irene's just-as-bad disaster of a game the day before. Today is the 10th anniversary of Jenni, who became the first ever player to deal at 11-box, accepting £26k at 11-box with the top 4 still in play! :?

It worked out well for the banker, with Jenni's good luck continuing through the forth and fifth rounds, showing she could've had offers of £42,000 and £76,000! There was a brief reprieve in the final round, but the banker had the ultimate victory with £50,000 being on the table

The fact that the first ever third offer dealer took £26,000 was ironic in hindsight considering that particular amount would later become the banker's draw card! :smt023

5th January 2006

(Won't bother with the charts, same state as two days previous)

DOND: Dave Woollin

Image

Unlike Nick two days previously, Dave's walk of impending wealth was indeed a walk of impending wealth. The chap had a 'system', as pre-determined methods in box selection were formerly known. This was one of the more simpler methods - ascending order selection.

Image

By round 2, with 1 - 8 opened, the board wasn't looking all that scruffy. There was a chunk of banter dished out at pretty much every Hugill call and Dave was none too subtle about how much he wanted some money. He'd scattered over £4,000 on a 20 year season ticket for Leeds United. The next day, relegation. That was in 2003/4 - funny to think he'd only have had 7/8 years left on it by now.

Image

The start of round 3, Gerry was poised at the seal of Box 9. But Dave swerved away from it, much to the shock of everyone. No reason was ever given for pitching the curveball.

Image

But towards the end stages, the large sums were ebbed away and the game was left dangling over the edge.

Image

But he survived the round with the 1/4 mil intact. The offer was characteristic for the 1st series - £20,000. Obviously accepted.

Image

But most memorably of all was that the avoided No.9 box held the jackpot. He picked it as the final box in the final round, leaving Box 20 on the wings because it was 'his' number.

Image

He was allowed to open his own box - ten pence was all!

Dave probably was the first DOND contestant who started posting on this forum and the old Bother's Bar commentaries. He's a bit of serial gameshow contestant (he's been on at least 6 other gameshows over the years).

Really nice guy (and I'm not just saying that as he's a fellow Leeds resident).

Not forgetting his 'SpanktheBanker' website, a place for ex-DOND contestants to congregate and socialise. Defunct since late 2007 and, retrospectively, I suppose Facebook groups would have usurped it anyway. Different times, the not so long ago past.

Was it the same as Nev's 5-box in early season 2, where he had 1-blue/£20k/£50k/£75k/£250k, and also received an over inflated hypo offer of £76,000

Both of their prove-out offers were justifiable back in 2006 especially given the generosity of the offers they dealt. Keep in mind Nev had a near perfect round (keeping all of the top 4 amounts from 8 box, a 7% chance) aft54he dealt at £41,000, so unless the Banker was convinced he was dealing regardless he would've had to go up to £76,000. Plus Jenni's game occured during the show's first 66 episodes, back when the Banker often offered near the average when the jackpot stayed to 5 box (see £54k Mally, £47k Trevor, £120k Jennifer and £50k Lee for live play examples).

I think Rachel and Shell were really the only 2 games during the early days of the show that didn't yield jaw-dropping offers at 5-box with the £250k. Garvan was a juicy example as well, but his fell just after the 'original' run of shows ended

A decade ago, Gavin wrapped up a memorable first week of 2006, which had 2 comedy trainwrecks in the form of Irene and Nick, Jenni being the first 11-box dealer, Dave Woollin's much needed spanking and his memorable system, and Pat being the first player to successfully swap at the end by giving away £100 and winning £3,000 from her new box!

Gavin's game was probably the least memorable game of that week, taking £10,000 at 5-box, missing out on a £100/£50,000 finish and a final offer of £23,000, but only had £100 on the table. Well, it wasn't as memorable as the game that happened exactly one year later! :smt023 Sadly, it doesn't look like the show will still be running a whole decade after a jackpot win :(

If you scroll down this website's since abandoned front page, you see there's a section called 'How Deal or No Deal works'. One decade on, the accompanying illustrations are still taken from Gavin's game.

Since there was no game in 2006 due to it being a Sunday, lets fast-forward to 2012

Ah yes, the year 2012, feels like yesterday but is indeed FOUR years ago, and we are already in the next leap year after it! The year I celebrated my 21st birthday, the Olympics games were held in London, the dance craze that invaded the earth that was Gangnam Style, The Avengers movie which got me hooked on marvel and DC, but for some, the year was dominated by the spectre of the world ending on December 21st, 2012, which had been haunting us since at least 2009 thanks to a certain movie and perhaps a misunderstanding of the Mayan calendar (And let's not forget that musical masterpiece known as 'Stupid Hoe' by Nicki Minaj!). What crazy times they were! :smt023

And in the early days of this memorable year, Brave Darren won £35,000 in a underrated classic game! :D

Yep, and that's mainly because of the FIVE £50,000+ wins that happened shortly thereafter.

Definitely a great game in isolation, though. Took the money seriously but wasn't afraid to take a calculated risk, and as he result he won £35,000 without a single contentious decision. :D

Of course, two days later.............. ;)
