Dave Woolin, 24 years old (then) and one of the first ever contestants to be active on the earliest Deal or No Deal websites, a regular poster on Bother's Bar commentaries (and has made lots here too)

Very quick intro, we're already beginning! "I'm hoping these boxes are going to talk to me". He leans into box 1. "What's it saying, Robbie?"

"Obi-Wan has spoken, take this box!" :D

Box 1 (Robbie):
£35,000

Box 2 (Liz):
£50
Hole in the middle of the board. "You've got a letterbox!" says Noel. "Well, we've had 1, we've had 2..."

Box 3 (Vaughan):
Anyone sensing a pattern so far?
£3,000

"Erm..." "Oh, even I can count to four!" jokes Noel.

Box 4 (Arlette):
£5!

Box 5 now? Noel's loving this, he's already at Pat! "Are you using any sort of system here, Dave?" "No" :D

Box 5 (Pat):
£1! It's working so far!

"So do you think the quarter million is going to be in box 22?" "Nope" He mentions a "nice £4,000 loan" he needs to pay off. His mum is a massive Barry Manilow fan and if he wins a load he's taking her to see (and meet) him in Vegas.

"Do you like Barry Manilow?" asks Noel to the Banker. "Oh, you're a Neil Diamond chap are you? Ah, Bucks Fizz!"

"This is going to be an interesting game whether you like it or not". The Banker's noticed that box 6 could be the next box he chooses, so "he's making an offer that I've never had to communicate to anyone before"

OFFER 1:
£4,321 :D :D

First ever 'comedy' offer!!

You can definitely see more of an interplay between Noel and The Banker around this time, after being treated much more seriously in earlier shows.

Box 6 (duh :p ) (Jenna):
"Gill, with you in a minute!"
£10,000

Noel's already at Gill. "You've influenced me now, Noel!"
Box 7 (Gill):
£1,000!

Noel calls this "extraordinary", not just because of his "foolproof" system, but because he's doing brilliantly.

Box 8 (Newbie Vanessa):
After the break! "This one is very different!"

Ah, this time the 'Welcome back's are present and correct.

"Welcome back to Baldrick's game - he has a cunning plan!"

Box 8 (Vanessa):
"Traditionally new members have high..."
£20,000
"...no, 20!"

In only one of the last ten games he's had an amount under £10,000. Amazingly he recounts every other person to stand in his wing position - Trevor, Sara and Lee. Slightly impossible now shows are recorded six months in advance, and, erm, have several dozens of player wing histories...

"He's now offering you...1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8..."

OFFER 2: £9,000

"9 grand that will not be there if you take out the biggest numbers in the next round"

"Do you keep a record of all your Dad debts?" "My Dad keeps a record of all my Dad debts?"

No Deal! And Noel's still asking the question as late as Show 56...

Jenni's getting married in August, as we found out yesterday. "Are you getting married in August?" "There's a problem there...I need to find a woman first!" "So you don't have a girlfriend at the moment?" "No, it's cheaper!" And Noel's in hysterics :D

"Is this the ninth box?" Tis...

"I'm going to go for box TEN!" Gasp! "But box 9's over there!!" Noel's worried - he's changed the foolproof system! "When he's got a penny in it you'll all be cheering!"

Box TEN (not nine) (Gavin):
£75,000
...bad move. Although he'd have got it in the next box anyway, so...

Box 11 (Julie):
50p!

Box 12 (Terry):
£500!

What kind of girl would Dave like? "Cameron Diaz? Not someone like Cameron Diaz, just...Cameron Diaz" He says at Christmas he asked for Cameron Diaz and some 'sexy underwear'. "I got the underwear, just not Cameron Diaz" "Tell me you're not wearing the underwear?"

OFFER 3:
£6,000

Down because the £75,000 is gone, weird when you think of games where the offer's gone up even after the £250k's gone. £50k, £100k and £250k still there.

No Deal!

"Unlucky for some...Anne! I mean, 13!" :-D

Box 13 (Anne):
1p! He's not in Nick's club either!

Box 14 (John):
£100,000
Oh bother. "Didn't want to see that", but he's got the £250k still at least.

Box 15 (Michael):
After the break!

Welcome back. Dave's brought a "cheeriness, a happiness to the game that no one else has" says Noel.

Box 15 (Michael):
£250!

"When are you going to tell me why you missed out number 9?" He was born on the 20th of the 9th (four days before me, woop woop), so 9 and 20 will remain to the end.

OFFER 4:
£12,000, biggest so far. Lowest on the board is 10p, highest £250k backed up with £50k.

Noel gets terrifyingly close to Dave to ask the question...even so, No Deal!

His mum and dad are going to "kill him" for this. "What are you doing, you could win 10p!" he says in a silly high voice. "And that's just me dad!"

Box 16:
£15,000

Box 17 (Andrew):
£50,000! Safety net has gone and Noel echoes that exactly. "An all or nothing game", just £5,000 and £250k left in the reds. Crowd applaud and cheer their support.

Box 18:
£750!

So £250k in the final five..."That was the biggest relief ever!"

A final five of 10p, £10, £100, £5,000 and - yikes - £250,000.

Noel says "Hello" four times in a row to The Banker.

OFFER 5: £20,000
Pretty hefty when there's such a big gap there...

"He's playing mind games" says Dave straight away. "My number's 20, £20,000"

He's ready straight away. "West wing?" "Nope" "East wing?" "Nope" "Man on a bike travelling past the studio?" "Nope" :p

It's a Deal! "I've never had money!" says an amazed Dave, it's clearly a huge sum for him - it is for everyone, really.

£250k going here will give him the first OPW in ages.

Box 19:
£5,000

Missing 20, and he has box 21, so...

Box 22 (Miguel):
£10

Oh dear. So the big choice - 9 or 20?

Box 9 he's choosing, the one he jumped several rounds ago. Was it the right choice?

Box 9 (Gerry):
*£250,000*
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!!

So had he not skipped box 9 earlier on he'd have never got near that £20,000!!

Indeed the offer here is £35 :D 10p and £100 final two, Dave would have said No Deal at that, and won (he too gets to open his own box):

Box 21 (Dave):
10p!!

"You want to get out of accountancy, you want to get into sales!"

Box 20 (Mumtaz)
£100

Great character, great system (has anyone done the same since?) and to miss the £250k out until the very end is terrifyingly awesome. After the last few shows a great feel-good OPW is exactly what was needed! Definitely one of the best shows of those early days :)

Pat from November 2010 and Dermot from the same time as h2005 was there had similar systems but they took the numbers in decending order instead of ascending like Dave (and only missed out their box on the table, unlike Dave missing 9 and 20).

This was one of my favourite games ever. :)

Brilliant game with some great humour to start off with, tension in the middle and a feelgood ending. Had Dave not left out box 9 in his system, it's likely he'd have had a trainwreck game (his final 5 would have been 4 blues and £5k!). One of the first big character-led games, and a pleasure to see all the way through. Hope you enjoyed the money Dave :smt023
