Well we agree on something.

keep the offers down to encourage the big finish (judging from the last two days, they're already trying that one)

I'm in favor of this. However so far the current low offers are still being dealt!

Something else we agree on. However every time I say players should not be influenced by the audience, family or other contestants and play their own game I get shot down in flames or told to shut up.

Regarding Power5: we are already seeing people winning life-changing sums of money. Craig would never have left that board for anything that wouldn't change his life, surely. I know I wouldn't. (And £24,500 might well change my life... indeed, I'd take that and run there if you replaced £75k with a blue.) And gambles can sometimes lead to pocket money. However, I totally agree that we won't remember individual games here. It's the big finishes that people remember and the most memorable moments we've had in the post-Lynn run of conservative play are Sarah's £100k box and Craig's super-destructive Noel-defying proveout. And a lot of people here won't want to remember the latter!

In terms of "life-changing" I'm talking about the likes of Laura, Gaz, Lynne, those that will make an unimaginable difference to someone for years to come. Whatever you say about the gameplay that led up to those moments, I just think the revealing of such amounts at the end when the player has gone all the way are the most memorable moments the show can provide.

I take your point that £24,500 is life-changing in many ways to a lot of people - it might pay off your debts, or buy you a nice car and a holiday - but it's not going to buy you a house, for example, or give you financial security for years to come.

Of course I don't want to see everyone no-dealing to the end, or see people take risks that are not right for them and end up with small change. But I certainly want to see a few more exciting games, and imagine the casual viewer wants to as well. Agree that Noel trying to force people on isn't the best way to achieve that though.

The future contestants are implicitly there for advice, which may or may not be a strength. I'm not convinced about it now, and would personally never offer advice on the wings (though this is simply so the Banker can't read my utility curve).

The audience are there to, well, watch the action unfold and provide atmosphere.

The family are there for some kind of support - and I guess that includes advice. Again, not sure if it's a good thing. They can ground certain players if their heads are in the clouds, or if they're nervous wrecks - sending them back into a neutral position where their judgement will more closely match their true financial preferences, whatever they are.

However, those parts of the show have fluid definitions that are by no means prescribed towards neutrality. Noel's role is - and he's not neutral right now, indeed he hasn't been for months.

Power5: I hear what you're saying, it's certainly what gets remembered, and it's Brig's line when he indulges in part-time Wakeyism (which sometimes he does). It's the most mature (only mature?) argument for Wakeyism, and even that doesn't apply to versions with even bigger money than ours (in yesterday's Miljoenenjacht, there was a third offer equivalent to over £100,000!)...

I think there's actually a lot of common ground between me and you. We both agree that variety in the game is very important, judicious contestant selection is the best way to attain it, and that the big finishes are the ones everyone remembers. (I'll add another condition, which I think you'll agree with: the big finishes are much more exciting when they quite clearly originate naturally, from the right combination of player and board, rather than artificially from forcing people on through some form of Endemol manipulation, be it from Glenn or from Noel. In part because they'll then be rare enough to be more memorable by definition.)

I think a lot of those points are quite right, we want the big finishes to be special, but at the moment they're just too much of a rarity. Compare it to football, if every match finished 4-3 it would no longer be special, but if you have lots of 0-0 draws then it gets pretty boring. And DOND is in a bit of a "0-0" phase at the moment. A combination of contestant selection, banker actions and run of the boxes (not least Lynn's game which has cast a bigger shadow over those that followed than any previous game I can remember). Which is a shame as we've had some great characters on the show recently.

Why wasn't it repeated on More4? What's being repeated on there, or is it a completely different game?

I was actually really annoyed at Adam, and I now really dislike him. It was as if he was almost ordering Craig to deal, it was like: SHUT UP!!

I guess we shouldn't forget that he did beat the Banker and get the most money out of the game, even if most of us would have been less cautious!

It's always good to see an OPW and I normally really enjoy these type of games, especially when the Banker's been on top and people have been winning blues, but at the moment a few of us are seeing our Wakey side come out a bit because we're rather frustrated with the lack of exciting games recently. Well done Craig anyway!

I think it was "The 100 Greatest War Films".

The offers are quite low at the moment, but I suppose it's better to have lower offers than stupidly high ones.

Craig didn't really say much in the wings, but I liked him more than I thought I would. I think I would have taken the £24,500 as well. Well done Craig!

The trouble is that Endemol are lumbered for months in advance with players already chosen. They just can't decide to choose more natural gamblers to boost the excitement of the show.

Their only recourse in the short term is Bankers offers to try and force players on (not sure if that will succeed based on recent evidence) or Noel to encourage them to go on (doesn't seem to work either) or shame them if they deal early thus pressurising the players in the wings to be a bit more adventurous .......

Its all too easy to play a few rounds and go home with a few thousand. I know you'll all say that dealing is part of the game but quite frankly if Endemol don't do something the mass audience will gradually dwindle away.

The show does seem to go in cycles and I'm sure this cautious phase will end soon. It seems to be a combination of a naturally cautious group of contestants and the week of three crash and burn games that preceded it. Maybe it's just going to take one game to turn the tide.

You do know his name is actually "Craig"? If it's some kind of joke that I'm not getting then I apologise, but I'm not sure why you keep calling him "Graig"...
