I guess Barry's fantastic game was a hard act to follow. Jeannie's game yesterday was a bit flat and the highlight of John's game for me was the 7 blues in a row and that says it all!

He was a nice old guy but not the most exciting of players and once the big 3 had gone it was never going to be a classic. He was slightly more daring than I thought though coz I was certain he would deal at £6500 at 8 box.

Playing on with honesty is baloney unless the contestant has a predetermined system. If they have no system then the outcome is going to be different because they are now looking for big numbers instead of small.

Maybe I'm just an old fart or something, but I thought that was a really entertaining game! Loved his dry, self-depracating wit - I guess if you don't pick up on his brand of humour then you might unfairly label him as boring...

Well played John!

Well done John on your £10,000 - I was worrierd that the proveout offer would have been under £10,000 - and then an OPW would've been missed out on by £2! I think that would've been worse than receiving a higher proveout offer! It was the right deal for you - enjoy the money.

John proves the real Deal

Noel Edmonds, John Bell and grandson Jon Bond

View GalleryA GRANDFATHER has scooped thousands of pounds after appearing on a hit television quiz show.
Hartlepool man John Bell was in the chair for yesterday's edition of Deal or No Deal and walked away with £10,000.

The 77-year-old retired driving instructor spent 10 days filming the programme earlier this year and had to wait 18 shows before he got his chance in the hot-seat.

He decided to deal on £10,000 and said he was pleased with the result, even though he could have got an extra £5,000 if he had dealt a round later.

"It was a good experience and I enjoyed it," said John, from Seaton Carew.

"I went to Newcastle in October for an interview and then I filmed it in February.

"It is probably a bit nerve-racking for some people but I was quite calm about it.

"I could have got £15,000 if I had hung around but I settled for £10,000.

"If I had picked the box with £35,000 inside, the amount I was offered would have gone down considerably."

John, who is a member of Hartlepool Male Voice Choir, spent around two hours filming the programme at the Bristol studio.

"There is a good camaraderie between everybody and you enter into the spirit of the thing by clapping and cheering," said John.

The successful contestant has already spent some of his winnings on a Mediterranean cruise with his wife Sylvia, 71.
