Hi all, hope everyone is well - could someone please explain what lol means. As I always thought it meant lots of love.

It can mean "lots of love" but usually means "laugh out loud".

There are others such as "pmsl" (pee myself laughing), "lmao" (laugh my arse off) etc.

I don't like them, unless you actually DO pee yourself or laugh your derriere off, I think they are a bit silly. What's wrong with a good old smile?

Thanks all for the clarification. I am learning a whole lot of computer speak on this and to think I'd been yelling at my husband all these to get off that..............................."beep" machine.

some people mean 'lots of laughs'

but the same meaning is implied

I know it as Laugh Out Loud too. Wikipedia have a short article on its meaning and history, and a few other Internet abbreviations, which can be found here.
