I see what you mean.....

"Did nark me off though when faced with tenner and 75k and she took 25 k then when revealed she had 75k and she said she knew it was there. If so why not gamble then. Just another save face speech"

Thing is, when I was left with 4 blues and 1 red, I told noel, which they didn't show - "I've got the 75k" and he said, "I think you have too and I never get emotionally involved in games!"

some people.....

Everyone would have taken the 25k, unless they were already loaded.

Yeah but you're 15(?) and £10 quid is alot to someone of that age. When you grow up you'll realise how important money is.

I do realise what money is, but thats it - too many people focus on the negative effects of a gamble and the consequences, rather then the positive outcome and more then double the offer! I have to say though, if i was offered something like Paul was offered, i'd have probably taken it because double £32,000(ish) is near enough £75,000.

All about utility theory really. For the averagre player, the gap between £25,000 and £75,000 doesn't sound as much as the gap between £26,000 and £10 does therefore people always think that they will leave with the tenner if they go on.

For people who do realise the huge gap between £25,000 and £75,000 (£50,000!) we will start see more big wins (And possibly small wins).

That's the thing, though. I expect Steph - and most other people - would have been far more upset if she'd gone on and won the tenner. As it is, she may have missed out on a big amount of money, but hey, she's got £25k as a nice consolation prize.

The negative effects are focused on because if the gamble fails, you're left with nothing. If you don't gamble but find out you could have won more, you still have what you dealt for to fall back on. Simply put, Steph's £25k was too much to risk on the flip of a coin.

Well, once again, it's a case of do you want any reasonable money, or do you just want to play the game, even if it means winning near nothing?

I think that Steph most definitely did the right thing by dealing. I'd have probably dealt earlier, so I admire her courage to go on! Well done! I did notice that Noel seemed to be trying to get you to carry on at the end, though... it's strange you both thought that the £75k was in your box... and it was in your box!

steph was brave turning down £4,750 on an all or nothing situation, after she got rid of three blues i had a feeling the £75,000 was in the box but it would have been another big risk so well done steph enjoy £25,000

It would have only been a flip of the coin.

Wakey, look at it this way - imagine a different version of DOND, where you're left with 1p and £3,000,000 as your final two. The offer is £1,000,000...what would you do?

Using the Utility Theory, most people would take the £1,000,000, but the gap between the £1,000,000 and the 1p is tiny compared to the gap between the £1,000,000 and the £3,000,000 so it wouldn't be a stupid risk. If it was risk £1,000,000 for another £1,000,000, then that would be stupid.

Depending what had been there the day before (My opinion, don't shoot me.) i would probably deal.

But on our board, you're not risking as much!
