Greeeee-tings my friends! Welcome to the second in my series of re-commentaries of classic DoND games that either I feel deserve a second opinion, or just want to watch. Today, it's one of the latter.

Like the series opener on Wednesday, it's a 1p win, and a contestant who many could find unsympathetic. The difference is, whereas Trevor is, as psychokiller points out, only unsympathetic due to the change in climate since 2006, many, including our old friend James1978 (whose departure from the forum was one of many reasons why I drifted from the show after 2013), found today's contestant unsympathetic from the off.

Yep, it's Matty's game.

"22 identical sealed boxes, in one of which is £250,000, and just one question: welcome to Deal or No Deal!"

Easter Monday 2008. The day after by birthday. I very much remember what I was doing that day. I wasn't watching the show at the time (though I did see a few shows the following week, including Big Ron's), but it's probably for the best I couldn't watch today's.

Noel welcomes us to the final Easter special, and introduces us to the Good and Bad Eggs in the corner. No mention of Gemma's £35,000 win on the Saturday though; I'd have thought a game like that would've been the talk of the studio for weeks afterwards!

Today's player is... MATTY!

Matty Cirullo, from Chislehurst in Kent, is an overhead contruction engineer; he has Box 3. He also has some presents for the Banker: a money tree and a large box of tissues, which he'll need by the time he's finished with him! He also has a photo of him with his Dad and his brother Aaron, who he gave a kidney to. He asks if he can swap his box for Box 17, as that was the day they went in for the operation; the Banker says "No Deal"!

So, here we go...

He's getting rid of the numbers that mean nothing to him first.

Box 10 with Eunice - £750

Box 9 with Janna - 10p

Oh yeah, we've got yellow boxes for Easter. And the pilgrims all have either bunny ears or silly hats on.

Box 20 with Brian 'the Beast' - £100,000

Box 15 with Greg - £1

Box 16 with Kirsty (who opened the empty box in Rev David's game) - £3,000

Banker time...

The Banker says Matty is a character, and he has no doubt Matty will win big money if it's in his box! He says, having remembered there is a vicar on the wings, he is going to honour the true meaning of Easter, and let Matty have his swap!

Naturally, Matty says SWAP.

So, Noel swaps his Box 3 for Box 17. He puts it on the table the wrong way round, and the Banker has to call and point it out to him! Matty reminds us that it is the day he and his brother went into hospital for the kidney transplant, and it's also his wedding day.

On we go...

Box 2 with Phyl (who got the lowest OPW ever at the time) - £500

Box 14 with Derek Brown - £75,000

"OOH, NOOOOO!" shreiks Noel!

Box 21 with Troy - after the break, which Matty will spend kissing random pilgrims!

We're back, and Noel confirms that all the pilgrims got a kiss during the break! We finally get to meet Matty's wife in the audience.

Box 21 has £10.

Noel says the offer is on the board. Matty suggests £20,000, but then says that's too generous, and revises it to £10,000. Noel says he was right first time!

BANKER'S OFFER

"That's very generous" says Matty, but he quickly asks for the question, and, it's a NO DEAL.

Box 1 with Rev David - £5

Box 22 with Peter (who walked unassisted for the first time in years when he took the Walk of Wealth) - £10,000

Matty says that's all right.

Box 11 with Ronnie - £250

Banker time again...

Noel asks Matty why he hasn't opened Box 3 yet; it's because he's afraid to, and to build up the suspense! The Banker says £10,000 wasn't enough to make him feel good, and he's bringing the eggs out!

The offer remains £20,000, but Matty can open one egg, and, if it's the good egg, he'll increase it to £35,000!

Matty says that's a good sum of money. Noel says the Banker is trying to call his bluff; Matty says he'd have thought the Banker would've sussed him by now. He's not disrespecting the Banker or the money, but the £250,000 is still there, so it's another NO DEAL.

Box 12 with Michelle - £15,000

Matty says that's all right. He appears to go for his original Box 3, but changes his mind at the last, and instead goes for...

Box 8 with Lexis - £250,000

Groans, followed by silence. Matty looks stunned. "Come on Matty, there's still some big ones..." says someone.

Noel calls a break to give Matty time to recover...

Noel welcomes us back, and says Matty has had a pep talk, but is still distressed. Rev David advises Matty to get rid of Box 3 and remove the worry about it...

Box 3 with Bash (Matty's original box) - £50,000

"Wow" says Noel.

Matty is so stunned, he tries to pick another box; Noel pulls him back.

The mood has completely changed now. The Banker rather enjoyed that round!

BANKER'S OFFER

£1,717

"That's the size of the crash" says Noel. The others offer encouragement, and it's another quick NO DEAL.

"You can come back from that knock" says Noel, and he encourages Matty to find 1p.

Box 7 with Rachel - £5,000

"That's all right" says Matty, and the pilgrims applaud. "Now the larger ones look very vulnerable"

"Fabregas's number, number 4." (Hmm, something tells me that's not what that number is to him anymore! )

Box 4 with Shirley - £20,000

Groans for that one. "This is incredibly bad luck" says Noel.

Box 13 with Big Ron - £1,000

Matty says that's all right, and we get applause again.

(If this was a 2010s episode, I very much doubt the oranges would've got applause. Not instantly anyway.)

Noel lets us hear the Banker laughing down the phone!

"He really enjoys seeing your agony."

"I bet his does."

He says Matty can open one of the eggs: if it's the good egg, he'll let him do the final round one box at a time.

"Your whole game could be turned around by this."

Matty choses Egg 1... and it's BAD. 2 was GOOD, 3 was also BAD.

"This whole game has turned against you after a phenomenally strong opening." (And two very generous pre-ADP offers)

BANKER'S OFFER

And it's another quick, but considerably more subdued, NO DEAL.

"No-one has ever declined £35,000 and gone away with 1p", says Noel. "We have to have an all-blue round".

Box 19 with Simmo - £35,000

"That's it, it's over."

Total silence.

Matty's wife is in tears, and he goes up and hugs her, telling her he's so sorry. He asks Noel for a break, but Noel says we can't do that.

"We're all with you Matty" says someone, and we get applause.
