Update: 13/10/13

Not long ago, I posted the following message:

Quote:
Quick note (ignore if not relevant to you): Please stay on topic so those reading the commentaries can do so effortlessly.

Clearly this was ignored. There is a continued slanging match that is entirely irrelevant and unwanted. Two issues. First: some posts are written with the intent to cause a stir. This needs to stop. Second: people are reacting to this provocation with constant backseat moderation. If you don't agree with a post, feel free to disagree but there is no need to create a war of words. There is a report feature. Please use it. Warnings haven't worked, so if this continues expect a ban.

--------

01/02/13

Just a quick note in regards to several posts from recent days. The forum should not be used to trade insults or direct personal attacks on other people. There is a point where reasonable debate just turns into a slanging match. In recent weeks some topics have become dangerously close to that point and because of this I ask those people (who know who they are) to either debate their points in a more reasonable manner or take their frustrations elsewhere. Warnings and bannings are in abundant supply and will be issued where lines are crossed so everyone else can enjoy reading the commentaries without the added altercations.

Cheers,

Jimmy

Jimmy is right...

Marky, I don't really see what you're getting at.

I agree that certain members seem to make it their "duty" almost to ruin the experience of posting here for others.
Maybe it would be better to name names, but I won't; I've been irritated myself at some posts I've seen.
For example those that incite frustration and even anger in someone else, who duly replies vehemently stating an opposing point - only to find out that the other member was joking all along, and only wanted to see what sort of reply he could "bring out" of other members.

That, I agree with you - I think it's absolutely wrong.

Regarding "ghost town"; I think numbers here are dwindling sadly.

But...one thing - having experienced this place 7 years ago, 6 years ago, and going from that to how it is now, some members of a "certain type" would have absolutely loved it back then, while others of a more..."vulnerable" type would have left immediately.

It was a much harsher place in that era than it is now. But still, I didn't think Archstered's comments were...well, founded really. Yeah, disagree, yeah make a point, but why resort to insult? That was just my first thought really.

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

Thank You Jimmy

Hi Daniel123
Sorry, my 'point' did get hidden by other stuff which is why you missed it.

The point that I was trying to make is that some of you 'more established' members seem to be turning a blind eye to the fact that a handfull of people are trying to wreck your forum by spoiling the experience for others. And that this could be the reason for falling numbers. I also got the impression that Archstered's comments were directed at those people rather than the genuine DoND fans like you & me....

Regards

p.s. thanks for the pic Joel....

Hi Marky,

Ah, I see what you mean now. For the most part I agree; we appear to have this lax attitude towards certain members, a kind of "well, they won't stop doing it, so what's the point fighting it any more?" view.
That's something that I think is flawed, because it means we no longer - in effect - regulate ourselves and one another. Which, if left untended to, could cause chaos (as it so often did several years ago).

Regarding Archstered, yeah, I think so. I think he had probably seen a lot of the comments by those people lately and sort of had this pent-up frustration and anger, which was subsequently let out here.
Fair enough, in my opinion; after he'd called them "mindless freaks", I agree with most of what he said (as you've no doubt seen when reading through the posts).

Are these certain members trying to "wreck" the forum? I don't know, but by the same token - I don't know if they value it quite the same as we do, I don't know if it has as much importance to them and thus what they say on it, in turn, I can only assume that's not important to them either.

I'm not trying to label them as outcasts or "sickos" or mindless freaks, as I've said before I personally value a good debate.
But if they spoil - intentionally or otherwise - the experience for others, then I think you're right - we are at fault for turning a blind eye to it and just allowing it to happen.
In my opinion, anyway.

This is an update in response to 12/07 Nick

As this topic has already received a report and there are several comments I thought I'd post a response.

Not everybody here will think about a particular point in the same way, so there will be some comments that may be slightly less optimistic than people would like. It is not a problem to disagree with somebody else, just bear in mind that the other person has a right to their opinions too. This forum is not a utopia for Deal or No Deal fans and therefore you cannot 'enforce' happiness and positivity in each and every post. It is not acceptable to tell somebody else to stop posting here because their opinions do not match your own. If you don't feel a comment is up to your own standard then please ignore it, don't quote it and move on. If it breaks the rules then you can report the post, triggering an alert to a mod who can decide whether action needs to be taken. Comments of a derogatory or antagonistic nature should always be avoided!

To those who do constantly post explicitly negative comments, please do so in a less aggressive manner or warnings will have to be issued. Bear in mind that 'negative' comments can be valid points if they are written in an appropriate manner. At the moment, many of them are not.

Finally, to continue on from daniel123's points in the other thread, if anything it is the bickering that goes on in these threads that would drive away potential members! Just to clear it up though, there has actually been some technical issues in recent months which has prevented new user registrations but this has been fixed as far as I know.

Feel free to message me with any comments you have.

Jimmy

After many months of absence due to some overly harsh, and I felt mostly totally unwarranted, attacks on my posts, and in a way me personally I am finally revisiting a forum I used to really enjoy being a part of. It is with some happiness that I read this thread, as I am sure any others driven away from here by the unkind treatment of a few contributors would be but sadly they may never take the risk of returning to this community.

In a form of response to my assault I started the "Thanks For Nothing" thread and yet the real culprits didn't have the courtesy to apologise therein. daniel123 did apologise for any offence caused but the real abuse came from others who I gather have possibly realised their overt criticism of others but never apologised despite their contrition in threads elsewhere.

I hope to visit again regularly as I still love DOND but will see how it goes.
