You could tell the swap is coming. Noel was padding way too much.

At least he won't drop to pennies if he loses here. But even so, still quite a shocking decision.

Noel is totally stunned by Gary. Noel says that he shocked and stunned everyone as they all thought he was going then, and Gary said so did he, but he will never have this opportunity.

Noel is about to open the box and the Banker calls and offers the SWAP

Gary says

NO SWAP

Noel opens Gary's box 7 and reveals £1,000

Gary turns to his wife and says sorry.

Box 16 with Brenda contains the £75,000

Gary said he had to go for it, even though it looked like he was being greedy, as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

A once in a lifetime opportunity to go home with £24k perhaps....

I'm the last (well, perhaps not the last) to criticise anyone who 'wakeys' it to the end, but you do wonder if it was really the right decision for him.

Oh dear. Still, at least he went for it, and that can only be commended.

Shame about Seema having the 250k as longest runner. The last person (I think) that happened to was Bev, and she won 1p!

Well, erm, two things:
A) That was the fastest heel turn I can think of. (Many of you won't get that. It's a wrestling reference.)
B) Those are decisions people can make in haste, and regret at leisure. Maybe only he knows how he felt afterwards, but StatsMan might have an idea...

£500 at 8-box was a SHOCKING offer. It was only 5% of the average.

Surely he turned face did he not when he decided to stop sucking up to the banker? :-D

Brave decision, and I admire people who pluck up the courage to go for it, especially when it's a 50/50 gamble. That said, his reaction when he went the other way bothered me somewhat. I always say, "You gotta be prepared for the worst possible outcome". I don't think he was prepared at all.

I thought he was a complete chump for no-dealing 24k at the end. Even if he'd had 75k in his box, I think in the long run he'll realise that to deal at 24k and miss 75k is better than no-dealing 24k and getting 1k, as you would still have a significant sum of money.

Still, he was a contestant who made zero impression on me throughout his time on the show so off he goes. I won't miss him.

Just read. What a no deal!! And not in the good sense. You have to be quite well off to be able to afford that gamble.

I hope he doesn't regret it too much...

He obviously isn't programmed to be able to do that. :-D

While I don't like to criticise deals or no-deals, I generally think well it's their money (or potentially their money) so they can do whatever they want, but on this occasion I'm tending to agree with you. Why? Because he said "I can do everything I wanted with £19k.". So why would you gamble £5,000 more than that on a generous offer for all or well not quite peanuts?

Having seen his reaction afterwards I can't help thinking he had a bit of a rush of blood to the head.

Ok, right... Well, firstly that was a very tense concluding part in the studio with the one-box game situation, which are often dragged out to get the correct shots, every box the pilgrims (me included) got louder and louder, and when we reached that all-red 2-box, I was relieved he had pulled it off, and we all breathed again...

Well, how wrong was I?! I did not see that coming at all, not when he was seemingly delighted with 19k and overwhelmed (he appeared) at 24k. It is a complete paradox to me why he chose to No Deal, nonetheless a dramatic 11th-hour U-turn and somewhat exciting to witness from my 'rail' seat (although my that stage, I kind of felt we had really had enough excitement for one game! ).

Quite an amazing game though, all told, especially how the psychology changed throughout and that dramatic end gamble, a thrilling experience, and for what it's worth, Gary seemed to cope with the disappointment quite well afterwards (post game), so good luck to him I say! :D

(Oh, and the intro also mentioned the 100k/250k finish being seen once in live play, this was cut out, but I was able to deduce from this and other info that Suzanne had the dream finish... )

Interesting that he took it better afterwards... and that you couldn't tell yourself why he played on. Not even a remark from Noel, or an aggressive player on the wings, to influence him?

Dan Judge pointed out on here how badly someone called Tony took his crash (from 40k-odd to 50p IIRC!) off-camera - after taking it well on camera - and how the only blue win for weeks afterwards was Walter's unavoidable trainwreck! I wonder how this lot will be affected by this. The fact it was the first to be taped may have changed things, and it also meant Gary had the night to sleep on two "squanders" with the £250k left to the end, which may have influenced him...
