Wow says Noel. The Banker calls and says I told you so, and if Iain wants big money he is now going to have to play on now, and finally the odds are in the Banker's favour.

Banker's offer:

£18,500

Denied a third straight OPW by a mistake at eight-box - not the gamble, that was a good call, but saying it was only just short of what he wanted. That set up the offer the wrong side of £20k at five-box. Good job he didn't get caught chasing that board!

Almost got out at the right time, this time a late deal, rather than an early one.

Well played there. Granted, he likely dealt because of the crash the previous round, but good to see the Banker's revealing of possible offers backfire for once! :D

"He would've phoned at this point."

Oh just shut up, he so would not! Everytime someone has a 3-box with £250k post-deal he always does this rubbish.

£79,000? Yeah, I highly doubt it would've been that high with 10p.

Corinne and Alex both got offered 88k with 1p and the 250k as the final two! ;)

Has he ever phoned at 3-box with the £250k in play, to say what he will offer if it remains to 2-box? He probably has at some point, but I'm sure he normally just makes an extra offer if he phones up in that situation.

I think he did in Tolleck's game...not sure how I can remember that minor detail from a game that aired 2.5 years ago! :eyes:

He definitely did that with Jack (my namesake!) a couple of months back. Only difference being, for him, the 250k didn't go immediately afterwards.

Jack and Tollleck had both dealt already though hadn't they? I think what BankerSpanker and H2005 were asking was if it's ever happened in live play (and like them, I can't recall one either).

£79,000 sounded inflated to me too. I know there's always the Alex/Corinne argument but Iain gave the impression of having a lower target (and therefore less willingness to gamble sums above it) than both of them, which I think the banker would have latched onto. Somewhere between £50k and at most £70k would have been more realistic methinks.

But anyway, the amount he won was only £1.5k short of his best offer, and the result threw it back at the banker at least!

Didn't the banker tell Del last summer at 3-box what he'd offer at 2-box subject to £250 staying in play? And also Beryl who went on and crashed? They both had 3-box offers though. I don't think he's done it for anyone he hasn't also given an offer to stop then.

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Unless the banker does often do it without making an extra offer, and we don't get to see it.

Not a bad game. Iain took a calculated gamble at 8 box that didn't pay off but got out before it went completely belly up.
£18,500 in a game that peaked at £20k is a good result in anyone's book.

I can believe that the Banker would call at 3 box in live play under similar circumstances to Iain's game but as H says it would be more likely to make a surprise offer than to emphasise the difference between the potential final offers. Maybe we should just let it ride and be thankful they haven't introduced the 3 box hypo offer.

And £79k didn't sound that unreasonable to me once you factor in the bravery/risk factor for the 5 box board

At least there was nothing in that game for the conspiracy theorists to latch onto.
