Really pleased for Sam given her intentions with the money for the schools in Kenya. I think the banker shot himself in the foot with the £36K offer. I was expecting the 24K 5 box offer would be doubled to 48K!

Well done Sam! :)

No No, you (and some others) have it all wrong. Endemol want a few good wins to boost ratings for a "nice" person with a deserving reason for wanting the money. This was a prime example of low offers to push her on, knowing full well she had the 100k

Yay! Well done Sam. A good result there! Looks like things are turning around for Deal now.

I really WISH I could rule that suggestion out.........

I agree with you up to your last remark - no way do Noel or the producers know what's in the boxes :smt011 - they are pushing her knowing it makes a dramatic show either way

Missed this as for some reason my Sky + didn't record this, typical!

Does anyone know when it's repeated on More 4, doesn't seem to be on in the evenings now :-(

There's definitely a pattern of big wins in the area, Sam from Newport winning £100k added to Collette, who won £100k+ was from Cardiff, Alice about 10 miles away in Caldicot, Alice about 20 miles from Sam in Monmouth (although technically she was living in Gloucester when she won!), even Suzanne, just over the Severn Bridge in Bristol!

Is this a record for £100k+ winners in such a relatively small area?

If they knew, it would get into the papers and the show would be axed like that.

Only a moron would think producers would be fixing stuff like this after what happened a few years ago.

Now I have seen it on 4OD, I really don't think it was a fix - The offers at 8-box and 5-box weren't as bad as I at first thought, though I'd still easily have no-dealt them, and the 5-box board was a lot weaker than Michael's - you'd have to keep the £100k to be offered much more at 2-box.

And the 2-box offer we all think was really low, BUT, with the player's specific aim for what certain amounts of money would do, it did genuinely give her a problem to decide it seemed, maybe it was possible that the banker might think the drop of £36k to £15k would be more painful than dealing the 36 and missing the 100.....

But I almost welled up when the £100k got revealed even though I knew it happened! :)

It was just one of those games that went well enough that they could have been fixed if Endemol were so inclined - a stable board, no £250k to push the offers up, plenty of room to get carried away without it looking reckless a lá Kerry-Anne, and a two-box finish where gambles tend to look bigger than they are!

Of course, we have Endemol's propensity to mess around with this format, the price of that is that people will raise suspicions at most of the best games. Well done, Endemol!

Brilliant game (although I knew the result before I watched it from posts on Twitter).

I think most people would have won £100k unless you really cautious. Mathematically there wasn't really a deal to be taken all game.

Got home from work today to find my recording had failed (faulty disc i think, can't be helped). Had a feeling it was going to be Sam's game so first chance i got i went onto 4OD and watched it there. And am i glad i made that extraa effort. What a brilliant game.
I must admit i found the Banker's offers somewhat derogatory. I'm not sure what the motivation was, maybe the producers thought she'd be a far more cautious player than she was. But that backfired almost as badly as it did with Suzanne's game last month.
Have to admit it got a bit hairy in the middle i was convinced she was going to take out the entire Power 5 in the space of 5 boxes. But she didn't, she took a calculated but not reckless gamble and it paid off big time, fantastic.
And the fact she is genuinely donating half her winnings to such a good cause is all the more admirable, probably one of the most deserving £100k winner in the shows history.
Interestingly i don't think Philantropic players have had a good track record on this show before now. I know there have been a few who have come with high ideals of helping out a favourite charity only to crash & burn

We were gutted to find that our Sky+ failed to record this programme! We all watched the game in our local pub and came home to every DOND except Sam's! We'll record it tomorrow when it's repeated.

Moving Mountains have put a press release on their site:

I will ignore the insult.
Actually I don't think if it came out, the programme would be axed, as each player still has the possibility of winning if not the top prize a good amount, because the boxes are selected at random by each player. Afterall, the selection of the player for the day is clearly "fixed" and nobody bothers about that, and just the Banker knowing where the money is only gives them a slight advantage in pitching the offers to try and steer the game. True, the credibility of the game would suffer.
Having watched most games for over 3 years, I am convinced he knows and I can usually predict what the player has in their box by the time it gets to at least 5 boxes left.

You're a better predictor than the rest of us. I'm as certain as I can be that the banker doesn't know what's in the player's box (apart from those games where gameplay lets him have a look)

I love human beings, always seeing patterns where there are none.

The Banker no more knew what was in Sam's box than she did*. I believe that 100%

*And before anyone suggests it - no she didn't know

What a game! It didn't feel like there was going to be a 6 figure win, but there was and it was great. Helped by the fact that the offers were quite poor throughout, it's still a brilliant result for Sam.

This appeared in the local paper - it was a surprise to us! It's obvious DOND released it...
