Hilde with box 12 contains the £3,000

Noel says we had a game the other day where a photo with a telephone box influenced the whole game, and today Ian turns up with a photo of a horse with the number 13 on and again it plays a major part in the game.

Now that's a great finish! :D

It doesn't quite go down as a brilliant game, though... :?

Why, why, why is it seemingly impossible these days to string two or more brilliant games together? :? :(

I can call that game brilliant, RMF - it wasn't in terms of payout but the way the final part of the game turned out (a perfect sixth round, a swap taken and proved correct, never mind the significance of his horse's number), I'd definitely say it was a brilliant end to the game at very least!

Well, in that case, it doesn't quite go down as a really brilliant game like Sophie's... ;)

I don't think I've ever seen a 3-box with £1k, £3k and £5k.

I honestly can't remember if it has or not...but it probably has done, albeit a while back

I switched off the moment £50,000 went, only to switch it back on to see him swap and win 5 grand...I wouldn't call this a win, mind you

Think Asma might have done that - she definitely had those three values and two blues at 5-box, and ended up with a similar finish to today, only without swapping!

The 9k's were pretty generous - in fact, Deal-Eye would've taken the 2nd offer today! The banker realised there was little chance of him taking any offer, so it was pure luck of the draw he managed to scramble back to 5k really, but I think the offers were pretty decent, as you would expect for a fairly pro-gambler.

I think the odds of 3 consecutive sums at 3-box is about 1.2% - Kirsty left the top 3 of course, but undoubtedly there must be others I've forgotten... (Daniel left the top FOUR at 4-box! )

I would strongly have considered that first £9k - I'm not surprised Deal-Eye would have gone.

A strange game. Incredibly generous offers throughout. Not sure the first £9k was dealable but the 2nd one was worthy of consideration and for me the 3rd £9k was very dealable (and would have got a 2nd OPW in a row).

Well, I'd have done the same as Ian and gone on - there were three bigger than that, plus all the oranges were intact...

But let's look at that 11-box board again:

1p
10p
50p
£1

£10

£1,000
£3,000
£5,000
£10,000

£50,000

£100,000

Looks to me like it was 50/50... :?

Almost exactly 50/50 (odds of not hitting the top 2 were 28/55). Granted the generosity of the offers beforehand suggested that the banker was never going to give Ian a joke offer but you can't really rely on that as a certainty.

This is the kind of board that shows how much the Banker's perfect first round of all oranges is a complete load of twaddle as they can be important sometimes.

I think it is described as the Banker's favourite opening round because it makes the game more interesting and dramatic when there's a clear divide between blues and high reds - it creates big decisions earlier in the game. Also, it is better to take out blues in the second half of the game than the first because it will lead to an offer worth taking, whereas pre-ADP the offers won't reflect that. (He says, commenting on a game with a genuinely dealable offer at 14-box...)

The revised 8-box offer was very very generous. I think the banker realised hence he called back and dropped it down to £6,000. I'd have been tempted to take the £5k but the £7.5k would have been snap dealt. I don't see how you can continue there - the banker isn't going to offer the mean for the rest of the game - and the mean isn't itself going to grow much unless the game goes perfectly.

Well Sophie was always going to be a tough act to follow, but that was a good game in it's own right.

Plenty of humour early on with 'Pennyworth' subbing for the Banker, strong input from Anthony - his game is going to be interesting - and one of the more unusual board configerations, with the top half remaining solid while the bottom half was slowly being eaten away.

The boxes weren't that kind to Ian but that was a good turnaround in the final round, and £5k in a game where the offers never got into 5 figures is a pretty good result
