Thank goodness. Hes perked up a bit now. If he can avoid the £20k and £75k he should be back up to an offer a bit around 9k. I don't think the banker will be pushed to go much higher than that as I get the feeling Derrick wouldn't risk a further round.

The banker says there was a <2% chance of doing what Derrick just did. Derrick puts his soft toy on his head and leaves everyone perplexed.

Banker's offer:

Derrick talks about the ups and downs he's had this year, and says this is definitely an up. He talks about how he doesn't have the stamina of Andy yesterday, but he likes the look of the £75,000. He wonders if the banker can hear, and the banker rings up and tells Derrick to be sensible and live to fight another day, and he says this offer is a lifeline. He says the £75k going will cause the offer to be much lower than £12,000.

Derrick says he's enjoying the quiet in the studio now.

Noel says Derrick turned a £1,000 box into £12,000 and Derrick says he feels very, very happy.

Well, £12,000 was certainly a huge increase from £3,500. The chance of taking out all 3 lowest blues was about 1.8%, so well done to Derrick for managing to do that.

A big well done to Derrick - one of the best contestants there's been over the last few months and (in my opinion) the best of 2011 so far.

Thoroughly enjoyed that one and an OPW to boot

A comic OPW from moderate play - would normally be a Game of the Month, and a Game of the Week probably 90% of the time. This is clearly an exception, coming as it did just two days after the Game of the Season, but it was important in that context too, as a win for moderate gameplay after we saw two very different outcomes from two very different games that went to the end (comedy Deal notwithstanding). I feared that Dale's game would spark a run similar to Laura's, where one wildly inflated offer after another got rejected by players seemingly seduced by superstition; as nice as that may sound to many after the genuinely poor Deals this year so far, it is merely the even less interesting (after a while) opposite. Ironically the voice of caution on the wings then was called Georgina too, only this one actually made the edit today, while the other one almost never did despite being an apparent statistician!

History lessons aside, that was a solid game with some excellent entertainment value.

Was looking forward to this game and it didn't disappoint. It looked like another bad game like yesterday's but the luck came back with the 1 in 56 chance followed by the 30% chance needed for the OPW.

Been a crackin week this, was looking forward to Derrick's and Dale's games the most as they are 2 great characters, great game i really enjoyed it. Now we have Thomas' game to look forward to.

Derrick is one of the most entertaining charecters ever to appear on Deal and he did very well to sell his box for 12 times it's value, especially given the way that game appeared to be going. Sometimes it just takes one good round to turn things around and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
