That's hilarious - they suddenly offer dealable offers at eight-box in a twist game after three straight crashes, and Noel doesn't even talk the player out of taking one.

Has there ever been a filming day without a red win?

Box 13 with Haroon contains the £15,000

Daniel says he's happy that there's been a good win after the last few games.

Noel explains the offer Daniel accepted contained a gift box. Daniel chooses the RED box and Noel opens it to reveal LOSE. :( Daniel doesn't win the holiday.

The banker phones back and wonders if Daniel wants a Christmas gamble. He says there is a yellow and a green box remaining - one has WIN and one has LOSE. If Daniel agrees to the gamble and finds WIN, he wins the holiday and his winnings double to £20,000. If he finds LOSE, he won't win the holiday and his winnings will be slashed to £4,000.

Banker's offer:

BANKER'S CHRISTMAS GAMBLE

Worth taking the gamble. At least he won't go home with nothing.

The others ask Daniel if he'd still be happy with £4,000 and to factor that into whether he'd be happy to take the risk. Noel says this is better than Jay's gamble, as Daniel won't be able to win NOTHING.

Daniel says

DEAL

He takes the gamble...

See, they throw in a no-brainer gamble, but with a safety net. They still want to push the gambling mentality on the show, but they recognise people will switch off with too many games like yesterday.

Or do they?

Daniel choses the YELLOW box and Noel opens it to reveal WIN. :xmas:

Daniel wins the holiday to Tunisia and his winnings get doubled from £10,000 to £20,000 :D

All the other contestants come to the Pound Table to congratulate Daniel...

As contrived as it was, that was a happy ending. Contrived happy endings beat contrived unhappy endings.

The producers must have realised it would be an obvious no deal without that 4k fallback which the other contestant blurted out. Often players must be annoyed when something about their target lets slip, but in this case it worked in his favour.

So Daniel does what Chris did at Hallowe'en 2008 and deals before 5-box - something of a surprise, but nonetheless understandable given the rotten luck of the previous three games.

And, as in Chris's game, the twist isn't carried out in the prove-out. Is this an actual rule? :?

But then... even with a happy enough ending, the producers still aren't satisfied and throw in a gamble similar to yesterday's, except this time not everything will be lost if LOSE is found.

And sure enough, Daniel accepts the gamble, and finds the WIN...

Sorry to say this, but it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I know a good game was necessary, but forcing it to be this good reeks a bit of desperation IMHO... :?

Call it what you will but winning £20,000 in yet-another poor game is an amazing feat

Interesting game. £10k at 8-box on a normal game would probably have been worth consideration - surprised he took it with the Santa/Scrooge twist on the horizon but it turned out to be the right decision.

There isn't much point doing the Santa/scrooge in proveout because although there could still be hypothetical offers if the santa is found, the banker seeing the contents of the box after the player has dealt would be pointless.

Contrived happy ending (and the fast pace of the game gave its presence away as soon as Noel opened the box on the table) but if you were offered £10k on a £4k/£21k final 2, no dealing would probably be the right decision.

Why would it be pointless?

I don't see why the Banker couldn't do his usual mind games here.

Let's say they had carried out the twist in this game, and Daniel had indeed found the Scrooge.

The Banker would have had to look inside the box then (play the game as it would have been played, remember ;) ) and of course he would have seen 10p - but, so as to instil worry that Daniel's £10k deal was poor, he could have claimed that he saw £100k.

And if the £100k had stayed to the end along with the 10p, he could have then said that he would have offered the swap - and if Daniel said he would have swapped...

Get my drift?

Contrived or not i thought that was a fun feel-good game.

Pleased to see a player deal before 5 box given the extra incentive to press on in these specials , though i might have been tempted to hold out for 2 gift boxes personally (Having said that, he sort of got that anyway)

The twist at the end was a much harder call for me but with a decent fall back and 50/50 odds I can see why Daniel took it.Glad it paid off for him, a much needed uplift after the past few days.
