I cannot remember a run of three straight contestants who all left with such regrets. How do you react if you're in the chair now?

I'm tremendously glad to see that Noel emphasised the 'agony of the decision' angle rather than the 'squander' angle, at least from kes's description. Paul's another numerate player, you don't get into geeky jobs like his without high-level numeracy; he's a frequent small-stakes EV- gambler, which implies he might be inclined towards 'thrill of the chase' decisions, and hence potentially reactive to Edmondsian comments in that direction.

Well that's near enough an average opening round, though the timing of the £100k makes it feel worse than it is. Thematic references aside, that's a standard opening offer for this day and age.

Oh crumbs, each round builds him up and then tears him down. Still, we have a very stable board here. Throwaway joke offer... Paul's had some stunning luck with the bingo, but it's deserting him when the stakes are highest. At least 10p's gone.

When the entire power 5 is gone before the ADP, you know your luck is out. The Banker doesn't even see the point in bothering to make an eight-box offer... it gets worse, and that's just the board... the Banker promises a final offer on the mean... and that's the cue for the red to go. He turns down the coinflip at these stakes - it's the sort of gamble he's probably made dozens of times before - and even that goes wrong. All of his luck used up in the bingo hall.

What Simon said

Newbie looks nice :P

Seriously, not a lot i can say about that, every round seemed worst than the last and Paul just never got a break. Did like the Banker's attempts to string the offers around the Holmes & Moriarty theme but it did make the joke offers later in the game a little too predicatable.

The one positive thing I can say about Paul’s game is that he never put a foot wrong. He never had a serious decision to make on the offers and his board never gave him a chance. Luckily for fans of the show these games are quite rare. Remember Martin from a few weeks ago (phone tattoo on his leg) was similarly unlucky? Felt sorry for Paul but he took it well and is philosophical about the whole thing. It is a very cruel thing to happen because from that first audition to the moment you play you convince yourself that your game will be special and you’ll be the one with the big money.

Also, how crazy is Mary?
:blueponder :-D
