Much like Olivia yesterday poor Matt couldn't get a break there.

Having said that i would have probably taken the 5 box offer in his position. less than i would have liked for that configeration but the way the luck was going it just felt like his last chance.

It was a brave gamble that sadly didn't pay off, but he did get a decent consolation prize which was a pleasant surprise

And no complaints about the Banker's Random act of Kindness today? Either Matt was really liked or there's a more forgiving mood on this forum these days.

Don't know what has happened to the banker recently but the generosity of offers we had about a month ago has disappeared completely.

I'd have wanted about another 2 or 3 grand at 5 box to be reasonably happy dealing but the £6,500 was derisory.

It was a shame that the gamble didn't pay off.
It was either a 40% chance of £25,000+ (or at least near it) and a 60% chance of peanuts or a £2,000 offer. £25,000 though is just under 4 times more than £6,500. I honestly thought he would deal but I like to see players go for it especially when I expect them to deal.
I am sure Matt will do very well in his life, after all he is only 21 years old and has a long way to go.
It was nice to get the laptop though.

Unlucky game for popular contestant Matt - he had a great positive attitude and was really enthusiastic about the games when I saw him in March, just had nothing to work with today. To get the same offer as David at 5-box with (essentially) 5k and 100k instead of 20k and 35k was pretty awful. It practically forced Matt to go for it, whereas it would've been nice to see him deal at a reasonable(ish) offer of 9k for an OPW. Given the banker said he quite liked him as well - that hardly showed in the offers (although he did give him a laptop at the end, I suppose... :D ).

Who'd have thought the highest amount available in the last 5 games would've come from the 3rd offer, and the player dealt at that point for an OPW! At this rate of luck, we might see a few more 3rd round deals...

The bad luck continues...£6,500 was diabolical at 5-box so it's fair to say that was yet another unavoidable trainwreck.

We're definitely getting our comeuppance from all those good wins from earlier in the year...needs to change this side of the summer break though (you could argue that in filming terms it doesn't make any difference but meh! :P )

(several hundred contestants - blue)
Emma - £50
Rachel - 17p
Olivia - 1p.
Matt - £50 + a laptop

Any particular reason Matt should be rewarded with a consolation prize when hundreds of others weren't given one who had equally bad results?

Of course there isn't.

No, but the point is that they're random, or if not random then slightly unexpected. The banker likes to be capricous and occasionally be magnaminous in victory. The last thing anyone who goes on this game can expect, or be entitled to, is consistency. There are no guarantees as to what offers you will get on a particular board, whether you'll get a bankers gamble, whether a brave no deal will be rewarded or in this instance whether you'll get a consolation prize. It's that unpredicatability that is one of the game's attractions.

Oh, he got a laptop out of it...i turned off in disgust once the 100k went...the giving of consolation prizes is terribly arbitrary. Not a fan of the practice. But...had the banker actually offered the laptop at the 6.5k point, i do believe he would have taken it!
