You serious? £232,500 gain against a £17,500 loss.. Its a clear cut 'deal' of the bankers gamble!

Would anyone here seriously accept £17,500 on a 1p/£250,000 finish?

Nope but when you already have won the money, there is always a small element of doubt that some people might not want to risk it having already dealt.

On the mathematical and realistic side to it, it's the same as dealing that sum on the same finish... I know the contestant may feel different hence the psychological twist to the element but its essentially the same.

Something I've just realised upon watching the repeat: the very moment it all kicked off, photographs were taken! So in a fair state to the show to immortalise the moment it happened, I reckon the moment she confirmed she wanted to win her box contents, the producers were told she had it. That's my theory at least :)

Are you talking about the flashes that went off? I think that was the confetti cannons firing... there was certainly no-one taking a photo in the studio.

I must admit to being in a churlish mood about this win.

Though most of us would have gone for it on that insanely genrous bankers gamble, £17,500 is a serious amount to risk. So to that extent, fair play to Alice. I just feel that to win the top prize you have to have shown the boldness to reject the tough offers such as the one she dealt at 8 box. Not a bad deal but definitely cautious and not the adventorous spirit needed to win the big one.

Ultimately, it wasn't quite handed to her on a plate, but it wasn't far off it!

Anyway, nice girl, great TV and enjoy the money!

Looking back through the spoiler threads I've found a few hints about Alice from a few weeks ago, but it was kind of mixed in with all the speculation about when h2005/David was joining the show and nothing specific about why she was going to be a memorable contestant!

I don't really post here anymore but this game compelled me. For me, that was the best show ever. The tension was absolutely immense and that for me, was the biggest gamble ever.

For me too, all talk on here of "cast iron" banker's gamble/no brainer/handed on a plate is utterly, utterly ridiculous. She DEALT at £17,500. So she couldn't risk continuing. Therefore the gamble is a MASSIVE decision.

For me, if they are offered the banker's gamble when the lowest amount on the board is the same as the lowest amount was when they dealt, then it cannot, by definition, by anything other than a massive gamble for that individual.

The game is about making a hard decision FOR THAT PLAYER. No-one sensible watching that show could think that deciding on the gamble and particularly, the swap, was anything other than a huge gamble FOR ALICE. Or indeed for anyone who would have dealt the £17,500. Anyone who thinks it was an easy decision wouldn't have dealt the £17,500 in the first place and is missing the point.

Well done Alice. Thanks for a breathless, brilliant show.

This game is quite remarkable, and completely unexpected to me. I thought, it's going to be a long time before a new winner is found, and then this happens, filmed just two days after my Dad and I visited!

I think Alice was helped by Michael's game, where he declined the gamble after dealing £8,800, with a final two of 50p and £100,000. He wanted to make sure Alice was too cautious to gamble before offering it, but he must have known she was a risk-taker, and would pretend to be cautious to get the gamble.

Though there is a certain element of manufacturing the win, I think it's fine on a 1p/£250,000 finish. As Dan says, it only happens 1 in 231 games, plus you need to have already dealt a high amount, take the gamble, and then win a coinflip. It may be another 1,000 games before this scenario happens again.

One thing I think this will bring, is super-low offers on blue/£250,000 boards. I wouldn't be surprised if the generosity of these 2-box boards was brought to an end, and offers of sub-£40,000 started to appear. But, that would go against the reward-gambling mentality of the show, so it might not happen.

Alice fully deserved to win the money, even with reasonably-straightforward decisions in this game. Thank you to everyone who kept this a secret, that made this game much more enjoyable for the rest of us! :D

I showed Alice's box opening to Henry, and he flinched as Noel opened the box and then flinched again when the confetti cannons went off, and then he walked off altogether. So I'm afraid I've found one being (a goat) who wasn't that impressed by today's game. :(

First of all, I'd like to start this post with a very big thank you to all those who knew about this but did not spoil it. I had no idea this was going to happen and I even look at the spoiler threads from time to time. And that is why I loved this game so much..I had no idea..

That was the most amazing game ever. Definitely game of the year so far and so much better than Laura's (which was just spoilt..). I'd noticed that the show was on longer so had a slight inkling of something special but not this...

To me, the last 10mins were some of the tensest minutes in DOND ever. The contrast was incredible and it was brilliant to see her Deal the BG and go on..

Heck, I even jumped out of my chair when the biggie was revealed...

Wow. Amazed. Shocked. Flabbergasted. Nothing on Spoilers.

I did not see that coming.

And do you know what, I think I'm going to start watching again :-D

The banker's gamble is one of the best innovations on DOND because it adds interest to the proveout.

Quite. Before the Banker's Gamble, the only interest would have been 'did you squander the £250k? Did you? DID YOU?!?!?!' from Noel, and we'd probably have got a six-figure proveout offer, £250k in the box to make that partly irrelevant, and the Friday 13th player being inspired to take out-of-character gambles under duress from Noel...

But instead we've got this. While I can't say I'm that keen on how this happened, it was dramatic television, and the irony of a far-from-Wakeyist player making genuinely smart decisions winning £250k undermines the gambling-friendly ideology of the show in one fell swoop. Did Endemol mean it that way?

I don't think Alice met Michael. I may be wrong, but they seemed too far apart. She was a sensible girl. She wasn't swayed by anyones show, that's a guarantee. In fact, I can't remember any player saying they changed their tactics based on other shows.

Alice didnt meet Michael, for definite. Michael started with me, which was before even you arrived Dan, so unless Alice and Michael met at their audition (which i very much doubt because of where they live) they defintely didnt meet at the studio. I doubt very much that Alice would have known about Michael's game to be honest. And Dan, i agree with you that his game, or anyone elses would have have not have affected her.

Er... I am in a complete state of shock at the moment - I did not hear about a 12th March £250,000 winner whilst I was down there earlier this week, so that was a complete surprise!

Although the warm-up guy almost gave the game away when he was talking about the significance of Welsh players during one of the recordings on Tuesday this week! I noticed that he very quickly managed to alter what he was about to say to only mention the first jackpot winner coming from Wales, and stop himself from saying any more. (Unlike one of the recordings last week where he blabbed a whole lot more...)

Anyway, as one of the forum members who did happen to know about Alice's win in advance, I'll accept the thanks from everybody who didn't want to be spoiled! I'm actually quite jealous of anybody who saw this game knowing nothing about it, but since I was in the audience for games 992 and 993 coming soon, I couldn't avoid hearing Noel going on and on about it...
