Just looking, I can't understand how the box fell off. There is a slanted edge with a light that lights the number on the boxes and there's also the microphones. Taping it- going to review now.

I still dunno how Tom was able to knock it off. His body is far enough away from the box to not accidentally knock it off and the piece of wood should have stopped it just falling off unless he gave it a big shove. It's just one big cock-up.

Only the IA would know

Yes, but it still means that the IA had a decision knowing that whatever he puts in that box is what the contestant has.

Exactly Steve, the IA wasnt gonna put the 250K in there was he/she.

I am disgusted at the way they handled that I really am

I think the best way to deal (no pun intended) with that freak incident was to reshuffle the boxes and have the remaining contestants, Mass included, re-draw lots.

OMG, really? He must have picked it up or something, it all sounds very dodgy doesnt it, maybe the baker was a bit short of cash this week, lol.

I've just reviewed the tape- the camera was over on the East wing ( the opposite wing). Massimo picked the last box before the banker, 10p was in the box. There was a lot of applause and the camera followed Massimo walk to the contestant, hugged her and came back. Whilst doing that, you could hear something fall on the floor. You could hear the production team talk and the camera looked onto the box. All you could see from the box was ,000.

I agree, they should have let him pick again.

So by them saying it was the only fair way what they meant was it was only safe to them, If I was Massimo I would have said that number 4 was my lucky number and I would have waited till near the end to open it :D

That was really horrible...I'm glad Massimo still got a good amount but it must be so annoying to be wondering what might have happened. Stupid Tom. Not sure how else they could have handled it, but....ugh! I'd be so annoyed! Poor Massimo.

TBH I really wouldn't be surprised if that was never intended to be a Saturday show and they re-filmed the beginning to make it one. I know Tom's tall but I really don't think his limbs would be long enough to knock that off accidentally, and considering the amount of trouble Terri had getting the seal off her box, I don't think the seals would just "fall off". Oh, and the coincidence that it's 250k. I'm sorry, I'm not normally this cynical (I promise) but it did all seem a bit suspect to me...

I thought they could have handled that somewhat better. I'm not even sure how the incident happened; one second everything was hunky-dory and the next thing the box was on the floor and production staff were milling about the place!

I did wonder about the seal too.

It's clearly quite sticky, and some contestants have trouble getting it off, and yet it fell off, the box opened, and it landed face up on the floor.

i reckon there are two options to this "box dropping" incident

1) The box was knocked off during a break in recording, the contestants keep their bottles of water under the benches, maybe he dropped his bottle, and tried to grab it and knocked the box off

2) He was paid by a tabloid to knock it off on purpose cos it would really take some doing to push it off wouldnt it.

I think that's more an editing thing than a chain-of-events one. They would have needed to broadcast it, as it does affect the outcome of the game.

And at no point do we see the first digits of the box, only ...,000, but the position of these four characters suggests it was £100k or £250k. Both of these were still in play.

I couldn't tell exactly what it was but the last 0 looked very close to the edge of the label, implying either the quarter-million or the £100,000.

That was horrible viewing.

With apologies for posting the full-size photo here...

Hmm, maybe it wasn't so close to the edge after all. Might even have been one of the low reds?
