It doesn't matter how long you have been there, its still a BIG shock to get your name announced as the player. My heart was thumping like mad.....

I liked Steve on the wings and liked him in his game... he was one of my favourites there, so it's a shame he's gone now. The £26,000 was the right amount of money for him to deal at... so well done to him and I hope he enjoys the money.

Oh and where did newbie Chris B buy his wig? ;)

Worst game for months.

Inflated offers. Cowardly deal. Interfering mother. Your worst nightmare.

It was a recipe for disaster. And thats what we got. £50K squandered all for the sake of a bit of bravery.

There'll be no sudden peak of viewers there on that game. Just millions switching off.

You could be right. I can't really say why but I found him a bit.... uninvolving.

The Elvis sound cut was a funny idea though...

 Millions switching off... Get a grip basicasic

There was nothing really bad in that show that would alter people's opinions of watching the show again! OK, not everyone will agree with the point at which he made the deal, but I hardly think millions will be switching off because of it....

We mustn't forget that that £26,000 offer gets so many people out of the chair, it's just so much money!

For the viewer, any offer is just a figure, but for the player it is real money until we say NO DEAL. When you are offered any money, it is actually really difficult and very lonely!

I think I'd have gone on at £26,000 myself, but I'm not a 'targetist' and I'm willing to guess he was. Any board can go wrong, as we've seen of late with a spectacular collapse of a stable board at that same point... and had he carried on he may well have then Dealt for half that, I suspect I would - and if I hadn't I'd have swapped and pulled off one of the greatest collapses of all time!!

(If I hadn't taken £22,500 - which actually I think I would have taken. The high probability of an all-or-peanuts finish would have had me jangling.)

Really? All I seemed to remember is her saying "It's a good board" (I.e go on) and "Go with your instincts"

I wouldn't exactly call that interfering.

Well done Steve! I can't honestly say what I've done today.

While I do think the offers were inflated, and the deal was on the cautious side, I don't think it was the worst game for months. I mean, he did get £26k, for a start! It was a shame he didn't have more conviction, as he seemed to regret dealing as soon as he'd done it.

I think this was a difficult game for Steve. He would have had difficult decisions on normal boards, but this time it worked out for him.

The one comment at the start, after the Elvis song...

"I need to win some money."

... gave the banker all the ammo he needed. He's honest, but he just gave the one person looking to use anything against him, the perfect piece of info.

Also, what could be a first, Noel didn't talk for about two minutes on the telly. I don't think I saw him while Steve was playing in Round 1! :o

Boxes: 11 ( 0.01 0.10 1 10 100 250 5,000 20,000 50,000 75,000 250,000 )
Offer: 17,500 ( 48% )
Average: 36,396
Balance: 43 to 72,750
2-box average: 35% of time above current, 49% of time above offer.

This offer was a reasonably good one for the board. I could tell Steve felt it was a lot of money, and gave a near silent no deal, which says "I want to deal, but I don't feel I can lose face."

Boxes: 8 ( 0.10 1 10 100 20,000 50,000 75,000 250,000 )
Offer: 26,000 ( 53% )
Average: 49,389
Balance: 28 to 98,750
2-box average: 29% of time above current, 50% of time above offer.

A good offer, though there's a strong board. I think this was too much for Steve to bear, and he sounded as though he had to deal.

The value of £26,000 for Steve, is different to my own, and so it's harder to say if it were a good or bad deal.

If you we're in debt, say of £15,000, the board can be valued as...

Boxes: 8 ( -14,999.90 -14,999 -14,990 -14,900 5,000 35,000 60,000 235,000 )
Offer: 11,000 ( 53% )
Average: 34,389
Balance: -14,972 to 83,750

... which makes a heck of a difference.

The banker may have had a reasonably easy game, but Steve did well to extract a large sum from him. Well done Steve, and viva £26,000. :D

...oh that's a point. Brilliantly illustrated too. See also: JT's game, where few called him on it because he got an OPW, even though Kathleen and Gaz took higher (in Gaz's case, MUCH higher) offers on the same five-box configuration and did get vilified mostly because they ended up with the £100k/£250k finish!

Though shouldn't it be less than 53% of the mean in that case? Though that actually is just a strange side-effect of that way of looking at the game ;)

I missed that!

Just as well really as all my other posts got deleted that would have been a cert for the bin. :eyes:

Thank you. Of course, things become really strange when someone is in £50,000+ of debt, which is why I calculate the mean with the minimum amount as 0% instead of £0.

Have a guess what the percentage mean would be in this scenario. If you can't think of it, don't worry, neither can I. :P

I think that's why the banker makes offers from experience than from stats, as he's so good at reading people and noticing such detail.

And hey, think of what he sees and hears in the parts that we don't see. Now you have a real idea of what it feels like for the player. ;)

Agree it was a bit of a disappointing game to be honest, the deal was cautious and rather surprised me, and then the proveout was neither one thing nor the other really - we didn't see the spectacular OPW or the big finish missed out on, which are the two things that can make an early deal game more memorable.

Still, as others have said £26,000 is a lot of money so he can't be disappointed with that, considering all the blue wins recently!

It wasn't too bad a game but not the best either. I was slightly suprised at the deal but meh..he went with what he was happy with.

Stupid offers in this game. We seem to have gone back to March 07.
