Maud's game today

Noel talks about Mike's victory over the banker yesterday...he says that a win of £32,000 was great, but we still haven't beaten the highest win of £37,000....we take a look at the board...



Maud has Box 20 today - Maud Franklin is 83 years old and from Glasgow...Noel says he loves her thick accent as she takes a seat. Maud used to be a nurse and we get to see some pictures...Maud talks about her father, who died in the second world war...we meet her husband, Walt, who is in the audience to support her today. Maud says they have been married for 59 years....she wants money to throw a massive party for their 60th Anniversery! Noel reminds the audience about hints we've had from the other contestants that Maud likes a few drinks in the bar after the shows!

Maud has 3 children, aged between 50 and 60...she says she had some pictures but she lost them at some point! She confirms she chose box 20 at random

A nice opening round, Noel says...Maud takes a seat and says she's exhausted already! The banker rings and asks how a guy like Walter got a girl like Maud! Maud giggles and the banker says that he thinks he's in love...he says that Walter is the only problem!

Maud's eyes brighten up and she says it's a lot of money...Maud says she has 6 grandchildren, aged between 16 and 36 who she wanted to each give an equal sum of money! £3,000 would mean £500 each, and Maud wanted some money for herself and Walter too, and she wanted to give some to charity, and...Noel says that it sounds like only the £250,000 will suffice!

Next round...Maud apologizes and says she's going to remain seated so she can store her energy for the last parts of the game...

Such a shame to find the £250,000 just after we decided it was what you needed, Noel says...the banker rings and says that the block of three reminds him a lot of Caroline's game, where he offered her £2,000 at this point.

Maud says it's kind of him to stick, but £3,000 is still the same amount of money she declined...she says if it wasn't good enough for her five minutes ago, why would it be now!

The banker rings and says that the trend is continuing...the board is now virtually identical to Caroline's now...the banker says that she left the £100,000 until the final 2, and he asks what the chance is of that happening again...

Maud laughs and says that £6,000 could mean £1,000 to each grandchild and none for her....Noel says it could mean £500 for each child, and £3,000 for her and Walter...Maud nods and asks for the question

The banker quickly rings and says he decided the offer ages ago, as he knew she'd have an all-blue round, because that's exactly what Caroline did at this stage the other day! He's finding this deja vu very unusual, so he'll make a change...Caroline was offered £13,000 yesterday...

Massive cheers for that! Maud looks thrilled with that sum of money...it could be £1,000 for each grandchild and £11,000 for you and Walt, Noel says...Maud smiles and says that sounds perfect...she looks at the board and says she never was interested in gambling...the audience laugh and Maud asks for the question

Maud says

What a quick decision, says Noel. Maud says she never came to "play the game" and she always wanted enough money to do a few things with...she says £17,000 is perfect for her, so why continue? Because there's a potential £100,000, Noel reminds her...Maud says that the £100,000 is potential, but the £17,000 was definate...Noel says it's remarkable how the first three decisions she no dealt straight away, and the fourth one she accepted instantly...Maud says she never was one for dithering!

We now continue...this is where it has to be different from Caroline's game and you must destroy the board, Noel says

Still identical to Caroline's, says Noel...the banker rings and says that if Maud had been brave enough to turn down the £17,000, her offer would not have been the £14,999 Caroline accepted at this point!

There are some groans, but Maud says it's okay and starts a round of applause...Noel is still stunned at how relaxed Maud is taking the game!

Such a shame for the woman we all wanted to beat the banker, Noel says...Maud admits that as much as she doesn't want to regret it, she probably always will...she says £17,000 will do her and Walt just fine though....Noel says we've had another amazing game, he tells us to watch again tomorrow!
