Just as the title states, we'll be seeing a syndicated daytime version of Deal or No Deal in North America in 2008 or 2009. Howie Mandel, who originally said No Deal to hosting the daytime version has finally agreed to do it. From what I've read, the top prize will be $250,000, and fewer models and cases will be used. The show will also be only 30 minutes long, which will make for faster games, provided thay don't pull any crazy stunts, which would be hard to pull off with a condensed format. I'm guessing that they'll use 22 cases, which would make it similar to the UK version. Anyway, I'd be glad to watch this once it made it to the air. What do the rest of you think? JR, would you double-shift yourself and give us recaps of the daytime verison as well?

I hope that whenever this comes it'll work out. I reckon you might be looking at something not-dissimilar to the Dutch daytime Deal, which has 20 boxes and a 6-3-3-3-3 format (in effect, it is the UK game but with fewer boxes to start and the first offer skipped).

$250,000 seems absolutely the right top prize. I do wonder what you'll have as safety nets. I'd personally go $50k, $100k, $150k, $250k. Just don't do what the Spanish-American version does, which is $50k, $100k, $125k, $250k. That's just wrong.

Shouldn't there be a $75,000 in there someplace, KP? How about $50K, $75K, $100K, $150K, and $250K?

$75,000 might work, but I'd sooner see a 50-100-150-250 sequence than our 50-75-100-250, and 50-75-100-150-250 might just be a bit too stable, and I don't like the look of 50-75-100-125-250.

I guess we'll see what happens when it comes!

Well, if you didn't like that idea, KP, then you'll hate this one:
50-75-100-175-250
$175K is the median between $100K & $250K. On the French Canadian version, they've got 50-75-100-125-150-200-300-500 to work with. The $125K was once a $2,500 space between $1K and $5K, but it got a midseason upgrade.

175 looks odd. But I can see the logic behind that even if it is a bit too stable.

The Le Banquier prize tree looks very odd! Interesting midseason upgrade too, doesn't work nearly as well as the similar upgrade to Miljoenenjacht in 2006 (€7,500 becoming €750,000, leaving a top eight of 200k/300k/400k/500k/750k/1m/2.5m/5m).

More breaking news on this topic: Just like on the UK version of the show, future contestants, along with 3 models will be holding the cases. Each episode is half an hour long, and all games will be self-contained within that time. There is still no info on how many cases they'll be using, but I think 22 would be a good number. Methinks they're starting to borrow ideas from the UK version now. This is starting to look good, IMO...

This just in: It has been confirmed that the daytime Deal will have 22 cases. Looks like it might be following the UK version's format after all, but we'll have to wait until Fall 2008 to see if it actually happens.
