I normally record DOND episodes to tape, but often forget to stop it at exactly the right place, meaning that each episode length can vary depending on whether I accidentally stop the tape a bit too late and get a few adverts, then forget to rewind.

Since Friday, I’ve been recording DOND episodes onto DVD for a close friend of mine, and I’ve been careful to make sure I pause the recording exactly to remove all ad breaks, and I’ve noticed something.

The length of each episode used to be (excluding ad breaks and BT sponsorship ads) 36 minutes and 20 seconds, and it was like that on Friday. But on Sunday, the episode lasted 35 minutes and 10 seconds, and it’s been like that ever since… and before you stop reading and call me a sad *beep* for noticing that… just think how much you could fit into 1 minute 10 seconds in an episode of DOND – it might not sound much - but the amount of wing banter that could fit into that 1 minute and 10 seconds is quite considerable, for example.

I wonder why extra stuff is ending up on the cutting room floor? I did notice that there seem to be fewer pauses and shots of the audience etc. before box openings, and I’d imagine they could easily add up to 1m 10s in an episode of DOND… so maybe they’ve been cut out for some reason?

I just think it’s a bit odd that a 45-minute programme is actually only 36 minutes… and now it'd appear to be only 35!

That happen a lot when a show is successful for a channel. Higher advertising revenue gets maximised by telling the show to cut its total transmission time.

lets think now .......

23 'who's the mummy - your the mummies'

46 'Ole'

70 'boom booms'

or

17.4 'you've squandered a golden opportunity to win a quarter of a million pounds'

Its a crime isn't it ......... :?

Good point H, but we actually dont neccesarrily need or want the wing banter - well, I personally dont at least. A short banter or yellow card is fine, because it doesnt drone on but wing banter in its Pat M form just got boring in the end, so actually the extra 1m10s taken off makes a change for the better.........

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

Today's game had obvious editing, for example the audience applause was clearly cut short, not something I've noticed much before.
