This is similar to something I posted in response to a post from KP on the Dealometer thread. It's a question of how much you go by the generosity of the offer regardless of what's on the board, and how much you go by the size of the money involved.

So the question is, roughly what offer would make you deal on the following 5-box situations?

1) 1p, 50p, £50, £500, £1,000
2) 10p, £5, £500, £5,000, £10,000
3) £1, £50, £5,000, £50,000, £100,000
4) £10, £500, £50,000, £500,000, £1 million (this is a fictional version with a £1m top prize, next Christmas or show 1000 perhaps? ;) )

Of course each board is the previous one with each value multiplied by 10. Will people's deal points follow a similar pattern? I suspect not in most cases!

1) 1p, 50p, £50, £500, £1,000 - I'd only deal if he offered me £63 or some other amusing amount...a straight £300 or something and I'd just no deal, even though it's generous.
2) 10p, £5, £500, £5,000, £10,000 - Ditto really - I'd be tempted to turn down £3k even though it's practically the mean.
3) £1, £50, £5,000, £50,000, £100,000 - £20k+ and I'd definitely deal. £15k-£20k would be a tricky decision, I'd probably end up dealing though.
4) £10, £500, £50,000, £500,000, £1 million - About £35k probably. I know that would be a pathetic offer but there would still be a 10% chance of losing the lot and I couldn't face that happening. Which is why I'd be no good on one of these £500k/£1m/whatever boards; the money gets so high that I'd just have to deal, and £500k and £1m might as well be the same thing to me so there's not that much temptation to go on.

1) 1p, 50p, £50, £500, £1,000 - Presumably you've had a trainwreck of game up to this point or have just had a disaster of a round so I'd be pretty pissed off and would only deal something like £750.
2) 10p, £5, £500, £5,000, £10,000 - £5,000 is a definite deal and £4,000 to £5,000 is a possible deal.
3) £1, £50, £5,000, £50,000, £100,000 - £25k-£30k is a possible deal but above that is a certain deal.
4) £10, £500, £50,000, £500,000, £1 million - The amounts on this board are too far apart for my liking so probably anything from £200k+.

1. £300
2. £2,500 I think... might take £3,000 to be sure.
3. £20,000
4. £100,000

The first two are the mean rounded down; the last two are tipping points on my utility curve!

I actually only put in the £1m board as an afterthought, but it's interesting to see the varying effect it has.

At one end of the scale, the people who would see any vaguely sensible offer on that board as totally life-changing and couldn't risk turning it down with the chance of an all-blue finish. And at the other end, those who would be so blinded by the word "million" that they wouldn't be able to deal even if offered £500,000 with that and the 1p remaining at the end!

1. It would have to be an amusing sum!
2. £3,000 (it would need to be the mean or above)
3. I'd be looking for £20k, but would possibly deal for a bit less if I really needed it
4. I really don't know - I'd probably wuss ut at something like £50k if there was even a 10% chance of losing the lot!

1) 1p, 50p, £50, £500, £1,000

I would deal for £88.88 only

2) 10p, £5, £500, £5,000, £10,000

I don't think I'd deal at anything, as any sensible offer would be about £2 000-£3 000 which still woudn't get me out

3) £1, £50, £5,000, £50,000, £100,000

I would deal for £35 000

4) £10, £500, £50,000, £500,000, £1 million

I would deal for £350 000

1) 1p, 50p, £50, £500, £1,000 - I'd only really deal here if it was an AMO and was about £600 or more
2) 10p, £5, £500, £5,000, £10,000 - Same as above really, except £3,500 here
3) £1, £50, £5,000, £50,000, £100,000 - £20,000, but £15,000 - £20,000 would probably be a deal
4) £10, £500, £50,000, £500,000, £1 million - probably about £35,000 as I couldn't risk losing that sort of money even though the £1 million is still on the board!

1. No deal, at that point, I'd be chasing the £1000.
2. £4,500.
3. Between £25k and £30k
4. If £50k, £500k and £1million were still in play, no deal.

1. Chase £1,000 but i may deal at £999.99 :-D but in all seriousness in that scenario £575 would get me out

2. At least £4,500 which of course would be a AMO
3. At least £40,400 which i think would also be a very AMO
4. £1,000,001.

Some interesting findings here:

- On boards 1 and 2, the majority of people would no-deal offers significantly above the mean. Though such offers are rare, we've seen them on odd occasions. In actual fact, if you want to gamble that money you may be better off dealing and taking the money to a bookies or casino, you'd probably get better odds! But it seems people value playing the game more than the likely financial loss, and there's also a matter of pride in playing to the end in a bad game for a lot of people I suppose.

- Even on board 3 a lot of people have an above-mean deal point. Though generally proportionately lower than on the first two. Perhaps some are influenced by the small disaster potential, or the fact there's two big reds there? Some, on the other hand, have a target they are not prepared to risk.

- Board 4 as I said before, some people would be prepared to risk any sum of money in search of that magical million! Whereas a few would go for amounts well short of six figures. I suspect a lot of the "gamblers" wouldn't find themselves able to turn down a couple of hundred thousand if they were really in the chair though!
