On the rather strange final twist where he was given the LTL box value. Although there was no evidence of it on screen, I wonder if the other contestants may have decided/threatened to walk out had he not been given a "fair" result at the end?

As they always show the others going up to the table at the end with Noel doing his closing speech, there's no way they could have cut that out if they hadn't stayed or returned to complete the show. And in any case Lynn still needed to open the remaining box to complete the game!

I thought the 'viewers box' offer was very much a last minute decision to save face. There was no way this was planned.

They must have realised letting PJ go with just 1p would have created a storm of bad publicity and the 'joke' backfired disasterously. The atmosphere in the studio must have been poisonous and they knew they had to act fast. Luckily the box had £15k in it but even £1k or £2k would have left a bitter taste in everyones mouth.

The whole thing was a disgrace!

I was watching the repeat of Jeannie's game on more4 this morning and guess who I spotted in the audience? None other than the lady who picked the LTL box for PJ. I'm sure it was her. Jeannie's game was a good while ago now, and probably would've been filmed several days before PJ's. Who is this woman?

I've got that on DVD, at what point in the episode did you see her?

It was in either the first or second part, near the start anyway.

It was disgusting ..... someone wants flogging for treating all 22 contestants with such utter contempt.......

Crazy chair, I noticed 'that pilgrim' as well, I wonder if she was with one of the contestants that had just arrived that day, although I don't recall seeing her at the hotel at all. I thought PJs game was quite exciting and gave a different feel to it, so pleased he left with £15,000 though.

Woo! I'm not going completely crazy!!! I guess we'll find out in the next few days, since the ones who arrived around about that time will be playing.

I may be stating the bleeding obvious here, but I think the woman was told to pick box 3, because £1,000 and £2,000 doesn't really seem a big enough consolation prize to make up for what happened.

It did seem a bit odd that the woman randomly stood up, chose box 3 as calmly as anything, and lo and behold it contained the £15,000... hmm... :suspect:

Why didn't PJ choose the box?!

And wasn't the Banker's Offer the "Viewer's Prize"? Did PJ actually ever say "deal" to that offer? The same goes for the offer of good luck too! :P

Perhaps if he'd dealt the "Good luck" then he'd have won the £75k...

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. I'll bet they were panic stricken after the way it turned out. I can imagine there was quite a bit of disquiet in the studio.

Also we don't know what was edited out and whether the show ending was re-shot because I'm sure the banker's 'viewers box offer' would not have been spontaneous but as a result of much deliberation.

I said I thought the LTL prize would have been the result of some sort of backlash in the studio, possibly from the other contestants, possibly from the audience, possily for PJ himself. I know that if it had been me in PJ's position you'd have been able to fry an egg on my face and there'd have been steam coming out of me! I'd have completely raised hell about it (and probably made a completel dick of myself on national TV) :)

£15k actually would have a good tester on that last pair - defiitely mean, but £15k is far enough away from 1p in terms of utility to have to be seriously considered. SOME would have dealt it!

I agree that £1k or £2k would have been a complete joke too, I'd probably have told them to screw that - I'd almost rather be a full member of the 1p club than that!

I was disgusted at the time and I'm pretty sure I'd have walked off the set and told them to stuff it had no offer been forthcoming.

I was sure at the time I'd have told them to stuff their £15,000 'pity' prize too.

But we don't know what really went on so who knows.

PJ didn't strike me as the sort of bloke who would kick up a fuss, so who knows what would've happened if someone like Andy K or Geordie had been in PJ's situation, who both had more aggressive attitudes than PJ! I doubt Endemol would've got off likely... I reckon the banker would've been slaughtered at the very least!
