For many months now, there have been endless posts about how great last March was, how it was the peak of the show with so many fantastic characters and shows, and how *beep* it is nowadays ("nowadays" being anything from May 2006 to the present day).

So how come the "Best Wing Line-up" poll winners from positions W1-8 feature only one contestant (Pat G) who appeared on the show in that month, and even she didn't actually play until April? Will we see a reversal of that trend when we hit the East Wing, or have people simply decided that that generation of players was actually a bit over-rated when they compare them with the all-time list?

I think the West Wing was generally better in Season 2 and the East Wing was generally better in Season 1. Certainly I think a few March favourites like Lucy, Mad Sarah and maybe Jim R will win in a few polls time.

Hmm, I've noticed that (IMO, at least) the East Wing had the best characters in Season 1 whereas the West Wing has had the best in Season 2. Although obviously there are tons of exceptions on both sides. (Edit: Darn you Billy!!!)

Personally, though, the good thing about March was that I liked pretty much all the people on the wings...I can hardly think of any that I didn't like. Whereas in other months there've been two or three absolute legends but also a few people I couldn't stand. Obviously when you look at them all separately, though, the rest of the people on the wings at the time don't really matter.

My own personal ideal line-up has...*counts*...six people who were around in March. I don't think the actual month in which they played matters, either, as what they do on the wings is a big part of it...I'd class people like Johnnie, Sandra and JT among the March players, even though they played at the start of April. Although I guess including Richard would be pushing it a bit!

Having seen Mad Sarah's game again recently, I think the end result is sort of "More than a sum of the parts" - the vast majority of them are in the top half of my preferred players from their respective positions!

I think it's a fair point that the East Wing used to have more of the best characters and the West Wing has caught up in more recent months.

We're getting quite a mixture of different eras in the winners so far - even though it's a very unbalanced line-up in other ways, with only one female contestant and only one under the age of 50 so far! (At least W11 and E01 look like changing that a bit.)
