What do you remember about the first edition of DOND that you watched?

For me it was last October. I had just run a marathon and was lying in my hotel bed when it was trailed. I'd always wanted to watch it because I loved the title and have always thought Noel is an admirable and talented and entertaining man.

I didn't know what the concept of the show was so I was very confused. And as each contestant said "I'm going to miss you" when they opened their box, I was totally confused as I thought all 22 were there for the first time. I couldn't at first understand why everyone cheered some boxes and booed others.

By the end I was hooked. And had just changed my work situation which meant I could watch it live every day.

What do you remember about your first time?

I have been watching since show 1 on October 31st 2005, and I watched only really to see what Noel would be like after his 6-year absence from our television screens.

I knew nothing about the format, and when I read in a brief newspaper article about Noel's return that the show was about dealing, I thought it would be one of these antiques programmes, where they go to an auction and sell goods they have bought at a car boot sale or whatever - as in the summer of 2005, David Dickinson's "Dealing with Dickinson" programme was aired - hence why the "Deal or No Deal" sprung out at me as being a antique programme like David's. I really only watched DOND for the first time as I was very intrigued as to what it was all about.

I also wondered this when I watched the first show - and at first, I was a bit confused by it all, despite Noel explaining it for the first ten minutes or so. However, by the end of the show, I'd worked out what was going on and fully understood proveout offers, etc., however what still baffled me and did for the first few shows was why there were 22 contestants there opening the boxes - were they random people, crew members, audience members or what?

I think in the first show, I assumed it was a bit like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's Fastest Finger First, and that there would be a new 22 each day and the player would be picked at random.

I'm not sure Noel ever explained that the 22 would be there each day, and that they went back to the hotel at night and lived together - when I found out, I remember being quite surprised that they lived in such an environment and spent so much time with each other.

Interesting! I got confused on the Dickinson front, too!

It was a beautiful Saturday evening. I was playing James Bond 007 Nightfire :-D  It was the Black widow Aileen's game. I just remember her getting very emotional during the game, and Noel encouraging her sister to comfort her. I found the game very interesting, it just grabbed my attention, an I was totally glued. And the funny thing is, it only came up because I accidently changed the channel. Imagine if I hadn't! Ah, good times! :-D

Mine was Geordie's...I remember I initially thought that they were just going to open all the boxes until they got down to just his and then they'd reveal what he won, which would be pretty dull...it took a while for me to understand the whole "offers" part.

I watched the first show, because Countdown was on before it, and I carried on watching. Like most people, I didn't get the game at first. I wondered how they picked each day's player, and how the contestants got the time off work.

I first saw it over Christmas 2005, was Michael C's game. Don't remember that much about the contestant or show, think he got about £18k or something like that. But did enough to hold my attention after watching Countdown, and a couple more episodes and I was addicted!

While I didn't know what it was all about before seeing it, my guess from the title was that it was a quiz with some sort of "take the money or gamble" element to it. So I wasn't that far off, apart from the fact that there were actually "no questions except one"!

I remember it well...

I had seen bits of DOND before and thought how appauling and boring it was. But then as time went on I wanted to watch it more and more. I saw Helen's game with her Ozzy Boyfriend and really didn't understand what was going on. By the end I realised blues were good and reds were bad. Then she dealt and the £250k was revealed and eveyrone cheered and I was like WHAT? But anyway...that week I also saw Sandra's and Johnnie's games. And I also fell in love with Julia <3
Then came my first full length show...prime time with J.T. I was still a little confused. After he dealt Noel said something like "He would have had to offer you this, there's no way around it" So I thought The Banker had written down a load of offers beforehand, and would offer them regardless of what happened. Also I didn't understand the greatness of a £39,000 win.
The week after was a little confusing. I still thought that the offers were not adaptable in anyway. By the time I got to Maxine's game I understood the format.
Then came my first 1p win and a some time off as I travelled to Scotland for a week, missing Julia's game and Not-So-Dim Linda's. Shocking I know.
And since then I have been hooked on the show, only missing a few episodes. I think the only ones I have missed since then are Sue, John, Sal, Emi, Billy, Lee, Spiky and Jasmine.

I cant remember the exact one but it was around Christmas 2005, probably just before. I thought it was alright and kept watching little parts. My bro came home from uni and said about it so i started watching more and i eventually got into it and have watched the majority of games since.

I think the bit I didn't understand at first was why the other 21 people there looked so genuinely pleased that Dilys (as that was my first game) was on her way to play for the money. I was expecting them to look well miffed as I assumed that their chance of playing had gone and I think it occurred to me at the time that it must be a bloody long way to go just to open a box :?

And then I watched it the next day and they were all still there (apart from Dilys obviously) and suddenly the penny dropped...

The first game I saw was the first time the £250,000 came to the table. After that for a while, I used to catch the end of people's games. The first game I watched all the way through was Brenda's (I think that was her name). She was the lady who dealt at £57,000 and had £50,000 in her box. I thought she was brilliant and watched it more regularly after that.

Thirteen and a half months on, and the show is very nearly like that for real :S

We've only had 5 people this month who haven't dealt... OK the offers they are turning down may be more generous, but we're not really seeing a pattern of more and more people playing on to the end.
