Breaking news, people, I just this minute found this hidden away on the News of the World website, I've copy+pasted it here so you can see:

Quote:
COMEBACK king Noel Edmonds is quitting the show that has made him famous to a whole new generation.

In an exclusive interview, the television presenter, 58, says that the show has become "tired" and that he wishes to leave before it's too late.

"It was a fantastic show and I've had great fun hosting it, but I just think that recently the spark's gone out of the show. We've only ever had one quarter millionaire, but if enough people would have had the courage to go on, we would have had many more.

Too many people have squandered the opportunity to win mega-money, and people are losing interest - I made the mistake to continue hosting "Noel's House Party" as it declined in quality, and I don't want to make the same mistake this time. I wish all the best of luck with my replacement"

The show started in October 2005 and has attracted up to 5 million viewers, relaunching Edmonds' career after a long hiatus. Starting as a radio DJ, he went on to host Saturday morning kids classic "Multi-Coloured Swap Shop" in the 70s, and later made the bizarre "Mr Blobby" a superstar with "Noel's House Party". However, tragedy occured in 1986 when member of the public Michael Lush was killed on a stunt for his "Late Late Breakfast Show", when a bungee rope came loose and plummeted him to the ground.

Laura Pearce was the first and so far only contestant to win the top prize of £250,000 earlier this year, turning down an offer of £45,000. The show involves picking numbered boxes at random and deciding whether to 'Deal' or 'No Deal' cash offers from a mysterious 'Banker' which Noel communiciates via an old fashioned telephone.

A replacement has yet to been named by Channel 4 or Endemol West.

I don't know what to think, really...I know some are going to think it's going to save the show while others think it'll kill it. It's certainly a big shock and surprise, didn't see it coming at all...what does everyone else think?

I... also am speechless here.

However, I can see Endemol clamping down on early deals if that's what made Edmonds quit.

I can see the steam coming out of Suezan's ears and I can also see KP jumping in delight. I, don't know what to make of it.

I do think though that a replacement is very possible, and with some refurbishment to the show, I can see it just surviving.

Billy, I hope you're pre-empting the future.

Heck, I think you might be.

That was cleverly written Billy! You would get a job immediately
at the News Of The World, it's entertaining journalism, and completely
false! :D

I love these lines "We've only ever had one quarter millionaire,
but if enough people would have had the courage to go on, we
would have had many more. Too many people have squandered
the opportunity to win mega-money" :-D

Exactly, but likewise, too many people have squandered
the opportunity to win thousands of pounds because they
went on to the end! :D
