right, this title may confuse some, apologies for this inconvenience.

Basically, do you think the old way they played it[from, say, Dec 05-late feb 06] is better than the new way[nowadays, when they clap for £35k and get £17,500 openers] or vice versa?

Personally i am sticking to what ive said in the past and im gonna say that the old "version" was better - for the simple fact that they didnt get offered crazy amounts like £17.5k after Round 1 when theyve not even had an all blue round - that makes no sense to me.

votes please

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

Old way, though perhaps not such a pure version of it. The offer patterns were probably at their best in the summer, when the Banker wasn't indulging in personal vendettas that is.

I'd say that the best version of DOND was the "old" one, if "old" can mean the February - May 2006 period - everything seemed a lot better then and the show had settled in after a few months on air. It may just be that I've got a bit bored after over 400 episodes of it, but I think many people agree that there were loads of brilliant contestants back then, and I think the offers were more normal then too - and there wasn't blue chanting and Noel encouraging people to no deal and taking them on guilt trips if they deal.

I think my favourite period was from about early June to the end of series 2 (Jeff's game) - most of my favourite contestantrs are from that period, and I thought both Noel and the banker were at their most balanced around that time!

I think Suzanne's game marked that start of the great period, I think the banker was in general fairer after that game, I think it took a first round swap to kick him up the backside! :)

That was the area sorrunding march of 2006 was the goldenage with such memerable contestants such Morris, J.T, Lucy, and Marcus loads realy. December 2006 Januray 2007 was quite good with the like of wierd Jonathan Bunney and the £250,000 being won and a great christmas episodesodes which featured carols back of bankers head and half mill.
In my view you get good times and not so good times.

I think...

it's still the same show. Good games, bad games, annoying games, entertaining games, clever games, stupid games, overjoyed games, forgotten games...it's Deal or No Deal. It's about picking boxes and saying Deal or No Deal. It doesn't matter what era it is from, stop comparing everything!

Well, I've maintained since I suppose Sept '06 that the older DOND, particularly new year 06 was the better era for the show. However, I've watched the classics and thought "they are wildly... lifeless".

The current shows give us drama etc... but entertainment and I laugh often. That said, they could tone it down just a bit.

What I don't like about the newer/recent ones is the Banker's involvement - he shouldn't really be characterised anymore. I liked the idea of him, when he was 'The Banker' and one assocaited a shadow with him, not a fat, posh old man that we have now. I also dislike the ridiculous offers.

Plus, I sometimes think some contestants become too involved and too characterised, a la Bunny etc...

Plus, I miss the speed rounds, and hate the way the contestant's say "I'm ready for the question", Noel should push them, I think.

However, the older shows were a bit colourless compared to the current ones. Although it was nostalgic, it was quite dull!

I was thinking that the other day - we haven't had a 'quickie' for what seems like ages. Maybe they got banned too...

I noticed that too, and I miss them. :( They were quite an amusing element of a game, and were only used about once a week at the most, and had been around since the early days, so weren't just a silly new gimmmick. I'd imagine they'd be a problem with the editing though - bearing in mind each round normally lasts 3 or 4 minutes - the quickie rounds, lasting only a minute, would've caused a job for the editor! Although his job is to edit - so bring back the quickies!

New version, although get rid of blue chant and bring back quickies!

The banker knows how to play the contestants now and thus bringing new elements to each game .. such as Rich's game.. an offer if he guesses the box contents! brilliant!... I think all the crew inc noel and the banker are learning as they go.. and making the show better. I think the old version obviously still had novelty value too, so it's good to move things on! :)

Old version for me as I was watching Mad Sarah's game on On Demand and it was absolute heaven without THAT chant.

Additional - Bring back those joking imaginary opening offers such as the pretzel-duck+3 doughnuts or in Pat M's game 250k just to end the game there and then
