In the summer of 2006, Deal or No Deal had its Double Deal Week - running from Sunday 11th June to Sunday 18th June - where DOND was shown twice a day (at 4:15 and normally 8pm) between Monday and Saturday, as well as one episode in the evenings of the Sundays either side of the week. The evening shows lasted 1 hour and included the hall of fame - clips of memorable episodes and ex-contestants were invited back to the audience to talk about their DOND experience and how their life has been since.

DOND claimed that the reason for having a DDW (Double Deal Week) was to provide alternative viewing for people who didn't like watching the World Cup.

Would you like to see another Double Deal Week this summer?

The positives were that there was more DOND than usual, and the hall of fame clips and ex-contestants returning to the audience was an interesting twist.

The negatives were that it was rather overkill - having 14 episodes in 1 week (normally there are 6 in one week), and also the contestants' time on the wings seemed to go very quickly due to the fact there were so many episodes in one week.

Personally, I thought the evening shows with the Hall of Fame worked very well, but having 2 episodes a day for a week was too much. Maybe they could somehow incorporate a Hall of Fame in other episodes? Or maybe make it a permanent feature in the Sunday episodes, and make the Sunday episodes 1 hour long - this would certainly pull in the viewers, and judging by the relatively low viewing figures for the Sunday episodes, I think they need to pull in the viewers!

I don't want it to happen again...I enjoyed it at the time, and thought the evening shows worked well and had a really great atmosphere (albeit one that was somewhat spoiled by the fact that every single game seemed to end in a £10 win...), but when I look back on the players I think "Aw, Ron was a legend, why did he play so early...oh, hang on, he did 21 shows". Frank was only there for a week in TV time! As the main attraction of the show for me is the players (indeed, I doubt I'd still be watching if it weren't for the players being on the wings in each show), I don't want to see anything that overshadows their time on the show. I quite like H's idea of a Hall of Fame in the Sunday shows, though.

Forget Double Deal Week, have Friday night hour-long specials at 8:30pm. And yes, the Hall of Fame would fit nicely into them. The Sunday shows are getting trashed in the ratings - Ryan's show had (according to the overnights) less than 2.5m viewers - the lowest audience for a first-run DoND since 2005 if you exclude Janelle's game as an anomaly, and if that isn't enough to trigger a timeslot change then someone's worse at scheduling than Bunney is at singing.

I'm not sure Friday evening specials would work, to be honest. :? I think they'd feel the need to introduce even more new gimmicks to try and pull in viewers, as they'd be up against other programmes on BBC 1 and ITV 1, and even then, they'd probably be trounced in the ratings. The BBC 1 Friday night "comedies" seem to get high viewing figures and ITV 1 would no doubt make even more of an effort to move programmes such as to clash with DOND - no doubt if DOND did move to a Friday evening at 8:30, they'd suddenly introduce a 8:30pm episode of Coronation Street on ITV 1.

I'd like to see it happen around the time of show 400 (which must be soon we're in to what 360s?) - as the first DD week was around the time of show 200. They'd have to have HOF contestants who player after DD week 1, so I'm thinking:

Laura
Lance
Claudine
Lynne
David J
Jeff
1p Sally
Wrighty?
Psychic Sarah?

No Double Deal week please. As much as I love the show, that nearly killed off all the fun for me. You can have too much of a good thing sometimes (except chocolate covered raisins, which you can never have too many of...)

mmm chocolate covered raisins.. yummy.. haven't any of those for ages... yummy they are as well.

Back on topic - I voted yes )Tuesday) but only 1 a year as too much of a good thing then becomes boring....

I think they most definitely need to incorporate something into the Sunday shows to ensure that they pull the viewers in on Sundays... and do think hall of fame 1 hour episodes for a few months would be the way to do it - maybe we could have this, instead of a double deal week?

I'm not sure what reason they'd give for having one this year, either - last year it was to provide alternative viewing to the football, but what reason could they give this year?!

I voted no, and no emphatically, it could certainly be overkill, but I agree with h that they need to do something special with the Sunday show, I would personally favour increasing the jackpot and the LTL, and they could select a contestant likely to be a gambling no dealer to make it more interesting or even have the contestants vote for who they want to play on Sunday! The Friday night special would be the other option and could work, but I think we have to say no to Saturdays other than the very worthwhile repeats.

I think I'd go for "maybe" for a double deal week, as I'd like to see the hall of fame, but 14 episodes in a week was overkill, and even if they didn't have the extra Sunday episodes, it'd still have been 12 episodes - twice as much as normal.

Personally, I don't like the idea of them increasing the jackpot for the Sunday shows - I think the jackpot should only be increased for special shows - i.e. the anniversary show and Christmas shows.

Of course, we could end up with a double deal week this summer, with a hall of fame and increased jackpot in the evenings.

I voted no for two reasons.

1. We went through contestants so quickly I hardly had time to notice them on the wings and before I knew it they'd played their game and gone...

2. I can just about make time in my hectic schedule to make space for one Deal or No Deal a day, I struggled to fit two in a day last time around.

The only way they could get round that is if they added on the extra shows - i.e. if there are 8 extra shows in a week, add on 8 shows to the total show count of the 22 in that week... but that's a rubbish idea. :?

I voted no, it was overkill last year.

It's ok doing something extra for one day or so but not all weeks

Very tight poll this is...

I voted Maybe. It worked well, and I'm sure it pulled many a viewer. I've just watched nearly 3 hours of DOND in 12 hours (Pam last night, Elton, Ray, Julie and Stella this morning) and I didn't get bored. Probably because Julie rocked, I skipped most of Ray and Stella's game was just awesome.

If there's to be a DDW this summer, I'd imagine we'll be hearing about it in a few weeks' time - in 2006 when there was a DDW in mid-June, they were recording it in early April, and news about it leaked out a couple of weeks before recording. This year, they'll be filming June episodes in March, meaning we could hear about a possible DDW at the end of February - so keep your ears and eyes open!

Is there any more news about whether or not there'll be a DDW? Because if there is one, they'll be recording the shows for it pretty soon...

Interesting that the vote is now 12 for definitely yes, 10 for maybe and 12 for definitely no!

The 500th show was recorded yesterday, and that agrees with my filming dates table (although there is one show that has gone AWOL) and my filming dates table was based on the assumption of there not being a second DDW - so I assume there isn't one this year.
