Hi everyone :)

I'm new here so I thought I'd play it safe and post this in here as I'm not sure whether it fits exactly into another topic! I'm just wondering what you guys would recommend out of the new Deal or No Deal games released for a Christmas present.

I know that there is a DVD, electronic game, handheld game and board game. As this is preferably a family game, the handheld game is not really an option, but out of the rest, which would you recommend?

I've heard that there are bad points to all of them (slow DVD, flimsy boxes etc.), so which is likely to be least frustrating for a family to play?? Also, are the boxes / amounts / orders / offers etc in the DVD game and the electronic games entirely random or do any of them have sequences?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Peter :D

Welcome to the forums - don't worry, your post is in the right place! ;)

The board game is, as it says, a board with the gameboard on, and places for 22 boxes - which come as a flat pack and you have to fold them up when you first use them. There is a black phone, and you enter the amounts which have been taken out each round into the phone, and it calculates the offer and displays it on the phone. It's quite good - but does take some setting up initially, and you have to carefully store all the 22 boxes and make sure you don't lose them (although there is room in the box the game came in to store them).

The electronic table top game, whilst I've never played it, is, as I understand it, fully electronic and random, and is basically an electronic version of the board game.

As for randomness, obviously the board game is the best, as when you lay the boxes with the values out, you don't know where the money is (and you can switch the values around anyway inside the boxes in case a box gets damaged and you know that the squashed box has the £250k in it, for example - so you can change the values inside so you don't get used to which box has which value) - the boxes themselves aren't numbered, you place them on numbered positions on the board, so it is as random as you want it to be.

As for the DVD, I have heard that there are sequences (i.e. pre-programmed games) because DVD players cannot calculate randomness very well. What is random, however, according to what I heard, is which game will be loaded when you insert the disc... so in theory, you may get the same game twice... but I don't know how many games are programmed into it, if it's hundreds, then you are very unlikely to get the two same games in a row!

I've downloaded the game onto my mobile which works pretty well, much better than the dvd but you get amazingly high offers even if you take out piles of reds for instance after taking out 3 of the power five got offered £26k  I downloaded it from o2 and it cost a fiver

I got it for £3.50 :P

With more realistic offers the game would be brilliant.

I notice that after a few rounds the mobile offers get much more realistic though ;)

Thanks guys :D

I think I'm going to go for the electronic one - doesn't freeze and no hassle of assembling flimsy boxes. The reviews seem to be generally positive of the tabletop game.

It does seem to be pretty random right?

I haven't played it, but I'd imagine so, as it has more of a capability of being random than a DVD player - i.e. the tabletop game probably would've been programmed by a computer to be random, unlike a DVD player, which has limited randomising facilities.

i've got the handheld one and the £10,000 always sticks around to the end most times, most definitely within the last 3 boxes.
