HEAT – TALKING TO NOEL EDMONDS

WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, NOEL?

You couldn’t print what I want! No, there’s nothing I particularly want, just to have a good time with my daughters in the new house in Devon. I’m not bothered about gifts.

HAVE YOU COSMICALLY ORDERED ANYTHING FOR CHRISTMAS?

Ha ha, no. Although you can set a timeframe on the orders, so it is possible. It’s best not to be too specific. “I want the New Aston Martin DB9 by Christmas, please”. I actually would like one of those…

HAVE YOU HAD SUCCESSES AMONG YOUR COSMIC ORDERS THIS YEAR?

Certainly, yes. I have a very nice lady in my life, which was part of it.

DOES SHE KNOW THAT?

I haven’t told her yet! Still working on that bit. And the house in Devon, that was an order. It has fabulous grounds. I’m very into gardening, but with a JCB rather than a trowel. I’ve got gazebos, ha-has, a lake, a boathouse, a maze…

YOU’RE KIDDING ME!

No, its got a maze. Its amazing. Most people buy a house they like and put up with the garden, but I came at it the other way.

HAVE YOU GOT LOST IN THE MAZE?

No, but I am going to extend it and put some surprises in there.

NOW, YOU’VE SAID THAT YOU DON’T WANT TO DO A CELEBRITY DEAL OR NO DEAL. WHY’S THAT?

I believe one of the reasons it’s such a phenomenon is because the players are the stars. We don’t need stars, we’ve got them. I don’t know how it’d work. Twenty-two celebrities opening boxes? I’d rather have 22 half-naked women. With the public, they’re there for a few weeks. On a one-off celebrity version, it’d be, “Hello Christopher Biggins, would you open box 16?” It’s my idea of hell!

FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION THE HALF-NAKED WOMEN. HAVE YOU SEEN THE AMERICAN VERSION? THEY HAVE JUST THAT.

I’ve seen the Italian version which is similar. When we play off air, we do though. We have a production team version, and they’re not scantly clad, they’re naked    . But seriously, I think our version is just right. It’s gripped the nation because we have a simple format. And a simple host.

----------------------------------SPOILER WARNING-----------------------------

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN THE JACKPOT FINALLY WENT? (TO BE SHOWN IN THE NEW YEAR)

It was wonderful, because we’d all believed it would never happen. You have to marry the luck of the box position with the courage of someone to go all the way. It took over 350 shows to find the player who grabbed the moment.

----------------------------------SPOILER WARNING OVER----------------------

WHAT OTHER SHOWS HAVE YOU BEEN OFFERED RECENTLY?

I’ve done a Lottery show for the BBC, and I’ am doing a one-off Swap Shop reunion for BBC2. We’ve got the original hosts and kids who took part.

AND POSH PAWS THE DINOSAUR?

Of course. And Keith. He’ll be there, sober. It will be a blast.

Yeah great interview. I'd put a spoiler warning in the heading or make it a less visible colour though, as people who didn't want to know could easily see that section.
