The website about it, www.redboxclub.com, says the deadline for the comptetition to solve the mystery has been extended indefinitely, due to no correct answers yet.

When did the symbols stop appearing on his hand?

They finsihed after the first week back after the DOND summer break - I think the symbols in that week were:

Monday 28/8 - WWW.
Tuesday 29/8 - RED
Wednesday 30/8 - BOX
Thursday 31/8 - CLUB
Friday 1/9 - .COM

Noel said in the Daily Record that the symbols were a joke and they didn't mean anything after all.

So, presumably, all you need to do to win is make up a funny answer and enter it in, and Noel will choose which one he likes the best...that's just a theory, though. The fact that the deadline's been 'extended' probably means that they've received no guesses at all yet.

I think I'll put mine something along the lines of:-

"Okay Noel, I have a friend who works at a hotel in the West Country and I've got a load of pictures of you and Kelly taken in flagrante delicto, so if you don't approve my application to the show or let me win the competition I'll be going straight to the News of the World, and trust me, these pics are really H-O-T !! Savvy?"

There's not a 25 words or less limit is there? :-D

Why didn't I think of this idea before?

Now I'm bound to get on the show (either that or the ten o'clock news - most pathetic blackmail attempt ever!! :lol:
