Just imagine Deal Or No Deal with no banker. Each contestant had to open 21 boxes before Noel revealed what was inside the contestant's box and they would win exactly that, whether it be 1p or £250,000. You would still get the suspense, and a lot more 1p winners and jackpot winners! The contestants would require no IQ at all because they wouldn't have to make any decision about dealing. Every show would go to the wire, there would be no proveout boredom from cautious conservative early dealing, and every contestant would have to play the game like a reckless gambler, no dealing all the way! What's more, the average contestant's winnings would be likely to increase from the c. £15,000 mark to just over £25,000, the mean of the 22 box amounts. Noel wouldn't be able to talk about courage or do chicken noises anymore, and the telephone would become redundant! Ok so it wouldn't be the same, but still lots of fun! ......... ( ;) you don't have to take this too seriously!)

Hahahah, that's actually what I thought happened the first time I watched it! I just saw people opening boxes and thought they were just going to open them all and see what was left...which struck me as pretty pointless, so I switched over. It wasn't until I heard more about it from other people and watched Geordie's game that I actually understood what was going on.

Maybe it does actually come to think of it!! :-D And it would get rid of a lot of those things we all find annoying about the show!

Would there still be a swap in some games?

I wonder what it would be called if it ever happened.

You could do the swap at the end, then the interest would be in people's lucky numbers and such like. With there being no element of dealing, on that basis you might have to call the show something like Swap Shop! :)

lol no, but maybe it would appeal to him, and maybe there is a Wakey in all of us! In the bankerless no deal version of the game, no one can be accused of chickening out! Just think of it, there is 8 boxes left, and £250,000 still on the table and 7 blues. No get out clause, just relentless box opening until disaster or dreams come true!

I'm rather laughing at this. :)

Of course there are some games where the offers are so ridiculously low we may as well be playing under these rules...

But really, this format is nothing more than a made-for-TV exercise in economic theory. Described like that, it has appeal to maybe tens of thousands of people. Put in context with huge money, dramatic presentation, a dash of comedy and - in our version - contestants that are personalised over time to build up anticipation... it has appeal to millions.

Lol, I agree KP, it wouldn't last a week on air if it made it on TV!
