An interesting stat that since DOND started in October 2005 to the end of the July 2006 season, 8 contestants had £250,000 in their box, and 8 had 1p in their box all along. This doesn't include Nick because he swapped boxes at the end to win 1p. Please let me know if anyone else did the swap to win 1p cos I don't think they did. Given that there have been 234 shows, statistically you would expect the £250,000 and 1p to have been in the contestant's box about 11 times each by now, so everything is set up for us to see our first £250,000 before summer of next year you would think. Remarkably, of the 8 contestants who had 1p in their box all along, 6 of them went to the end, amazing when you think that no one no dealed to the end that had the quarter of a million. Great for the banker! :?

Yep, only seven people have had 1p in their original boxes.

And it's not really that amazing - going to the end with £250k in your box would mean taking some huge gambles, as as long as the £250k is there, you're going to get big offers. The only person who took a gamble to win 1p was Fadil (and even then it wasn't much of one); everyone else had another crap box left at the end, so there's no point in not going on.

I think gambling between £35,000 and 1p with £7,000 is a significant gamble, certainly one that takes courage, Connell's perhaps less so because £2,000 was not a lot to lose with £10,000 up for grabs.

The reason that most of the people who had 1p in their box no-dealt to the end of the game is because they would've received rubbish offers towards the end, because of the presence of the 1p - e.g. Trevor Bruce receiving an offer of £9,000, despite the £250k still being in play.

Offers such as this are dismissed, perhaps too quickly, meaning that the player goes to the end (despite the fact they could've dealt at a few hundred pounds, as "damage limitation").

People who have the £250kin their box, perhaps with a few other reds, are going to receive a huge offer, which they are likelyto deal at, meaning they are less likelyto go to the end and reveal £250k.

Well...it is in that £7k is a lot of money, but I thought it was a pathetic offer given that the £35k was still there, and I'd think anyone who didn't desperately need the money would take that gamble.

i'm afraid if I had to go in the hall of fame it would be not for the 1p but for the lowest ever offer accepted but then again I am not brave enough to go that far
