I mean...I don't really even know what to say...

But what does this mean for Deal or No Deal, if anything? What kind of precedent might it set?
Would there actually have been any drawback in letting the player go on and complete the trainwreck and leave with a few quid? Would people think the show was simply too depressing and stop watching?
What must all the players be thinking who've gone before Chantel, had awful games, and not been given the opportunity to salvage something from their game?

We had Chris of course in February 2006, whose fourth offer was the remarkable £1,500 despite the average sitting around the £1,450 mark, but even this example is dwarfed by today's offer.

I'm really not sure what to think, other than that this - simply - wasn't right.

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

It reminds me of the banker handouts that were quite common at one point in the Edmonds era. The one that sticks out is Brian (Aug 2008).

I had to check his show thread here to remind me of the exact details - he brought his own mug, won 50p after a fairly poor game, revealed his target was £3,780 (the amount of a loan his mum needed to pay off) and the banker randomly "bought" Brian's mug for £3,780.

I know the handouts were a bit different to ridiculously generous offers, but they're not a million miles apart.

There's no immersion with this 'Banker'.

Call me silly but it did add somethinggg to the "psychotic death cult" OG version when you believed a retired tycoon was offloading his huge fortune by basically playing poker with himself.

Now it's just socially awkward humans wanting people to Feel Good, and Do Other Stuff Good As Well.

As a one off I don't mind that offer. It shows you can manipulate this Banker into getting an insanely generous offer. I definitely don't want this becoming a trend though, as that will turn the show into a joke.

Ahh, as I've said in my job though. So often. To do it once - is to do it.

It's fine, or isn't. No exceptions, or it's allowed.

Anyway let's leave that real world bullshine aside, ey.

I seriously, seriously hope it was a one-off moment of madness on the producer's part. If it starts happening on even an occasional basis it'll be the death knell of the show.

It's one thing to give more statistically generous offers on poor boards to give the contestant some chance to leave with something. But £1,050 on a board with £2,000 and 4 blues is absolutely absurd. Stephen himself even pointed out that that's the offer you'd expect on a blue/2k finish. He could've offered £400-450 if he wanted to be 'generous' and offer the chance at a bailout with some semblance of sense still attached - but over double the mean?!

It stuck in the craw even more because Sarah who played just two days ago got offers nowhere near that good on a board thay was stronger both at 5 box and 3 box than Chantel's.

Just for a bit of perspective, the equivalent of that offer in today's game would have seen Mick dealing - with 1p, 10p, £50, £50,000 and £75,000 remaining - at

BANKER'S OFFER

£57,958
