Look forward to it, as per the return of a couple of other shows I was once hooked on, Big Brother and Gladiators… all were promised this year but we’ve had to wait until the final quarter! Whether any of them recapture the old magic remains to be seen.

I do fear the drop in top prize will negatively impact the amount of gameplay that there is in the format. I suspect a high percentage of games will never get off the ground, won’t see a five-figure offer and will pretty much go to the end by default. £100k now is not far removed from having a top prize of just £50k back in 2005, adjusted for inflation!

Good to see people returning. Nearly 7 years since the last show, that's just crazy!

I think that even with the reduced amounts, the show has 500 episodes in it. 250 would be okay, and 750+ would be a success. Stephen is a good replacement for Noel and Noel is ecstatic that the show's returning.

Comparisons with the original show will inevitably be made. This show should be treated as its own thing.

The first reason is that there is less focus on the top prize. It will be won several times and I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't won in the first 20 shows. (*cough* Irish version *cough*) With more money as a percentage in other amounts, games are less likely to suddenly crash, and players will be less scared to continue. This could unintentionally be a stroke of genius and improve the show.

I fear that having only a 'power 4' is a mistake as there will be more games that don't work out. An additional offer adds a plaster over things and doesn't help. Difficult to know how disruptive this will be until it's tried.

The second is that because there is less money, it will be more about socialising and having a good time. That will filter out a lot of potential contestants to just those who want some money, primarily self-filtering through whether they applied or not. It's going to be a very different show for that.

My concern is that a lot of players will chase the money, seeing as there is less of it. If the idea was to have less spectacular crashes, there will simply be many more smaller crashes.

The show would have benefited from having a board with twice as much money. I wouldn't be surprised if a celebrity edition has double money for the red amounts. I fear that there won't be another reboot of Deal that offers a very large amount of money (£250,000+) because of the long-term downturn in TV advertising, which would be a hugely missed opportunity.

Third is that Stephen has the opportunity to make the show his. As long as he doesn't do 'blue' chants and box 'feels' then I'm happy! (I haven't even talked about the real star of the show, the Banker, who makes the show exciting. Let's hope they are good, even in this reduced format, whoever they are!)

Even if it isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, ITV are onto a winner. Channel 4 are really missing a trick here as they could have had a new Deal or No Deal sponsored by the Postcode Lottery for a huge version based on Miljoenenjacht.

I actually had the opposite prediction, that none of the top 3 amounts will be won in the initial 20 episode batch of shows and the top win will be in the 25 to 29k range.

The reason for this prediction is that in the promos were seeing the Banker be less "evil" with his offers and make decent offers even when the board only has 1 or 2 amounts significantly higher (which will be most boards with this "power 4" board structure). With this offer structure I think very few people will be willing to go past 5 or 3 box, and certainly won't when the 100k is in play, which is the only amount than produce a final offer higher than the 20s without a big fallback even with decent offer generosity.

Good to see everyone! This must be the first time I've logged in for years! I knew DOND was returning but had forgotten it's tomorrow. I think Stephen Mulhern will make a good host though of course Noel is irreplaceable. Will it be the same prize money and format?

I'll watch it but the board structure is TERRIBLE. As if it's been skimp-flationed. I remember we used to joke about 90s money in the early days of the show and it's like that actually came to fruition

It'll be interesting to see how it turns out but that new board structure is awful.

It's not even the top prize being 100k - that's a shame but understandable. But the massive drop from 50k to 25k and then another massive drop from 25k to 10k in the reds? And over half of the red amounts being four figure sums, what in days of old would have been called 'oranges'?

I'll be happy if I'm proven wrong, but it looks like a recipe for lots of contestants being forced to the end and/or a huge amount of unspectacular low four-figure wins. Time will tell I suppose.

Has anyone noticed that in the new series a number of players in the wings are taking a long time to open their box? Have they been told to spin it out for more suspense?

I'm sure faster box openers are preferred as it makes things slicker when the camera zooms in.

Thanks h! I was reminded of your show. If I recall you had 20K and a blue at the end and a blue in your box after dealing for around 6K? Did you play in the era when he had introduced the banker's gamble as I'm wondering if he might have offered you that. If he had would you have taken it?! I wonder if we'll see some banker's gambles in the new series.

H2005 was on the wings when Alice infamously won the £250,000 via a Banker's Gamble after only dealing £17,500, so suffice to say the Banker was a bit too skittish to offer the Gamble in H's game.
