Why not have the categories but allow people to nominate their own choice of contestant for each category.

This would probably require a little more work to sort out the winners in each category but it will allow everyone to choose their favourites in each category. If you decide to do it this way I can send you a copy of an excel spreadsheet I have with every contestants name on to help keep tally of the votes.
