No, they just don't like what Deal or No Deal has turned into.

I agree with everyone on there in that case.

They have a point about the hour long version of the show. It does drag on a bit. I definitely preferred the show when there was less hype but having said that some of the recent games I have seen are quite well put together with the added comical extras. My main gripe is with Edmonds. Unfortunately, he has merged himself into the format making it difficult to imagine the show without him. A new presenter would breathe some fresh air into the place. I'd watch it all day long if David Attenborough was at the helm. :eyes: :suspect:

I'm glad I read the thread just for the quote "my dead grandma's IQ was 18 so I'm going to open that box first". :O :D

I actually agree with a lot of what they've said there. Also, remember its not a fansite like this so criticism can only be expected.

They do seem to enjoy a good rant on that site don't they. Nonetheless, there's some good points about how the show can struggle in an hour-long slot (just think, this time 2 years ago it was even longer in a 65-minute slot! )

Furthermore, that thread's largely quite tame compared to some of the abuse posted by "fans" on the show's official Facebook page whenever a contestant who isn't white or British is in the chair...

I must say I agree myself.

I don't like what the show has turned into...I hate the different twists and turns they've added to keep the viewing figures up, which in turn - let's be frank - are dwindling.

They are. We used to get, what, 2.5, 3, 4 million viewers regularly. Recent viewing figures haven't come close (correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm basing that on the stats).

I don't like calling it "Deal". It's Deal or No Deal. There is another thing you can do on this show, and that is called No Deal. :suspect:

Overall...the appeal of DoND has waned for me in recent years.
Such that where I used to make it my priority to watch the show, I have contributed to the dwindling viewing figures for the last 5 years exactly. My last properly-watched show was around this time in 2008.

On that basis...I have to say I agree with most of the "slagging" of DoND on Digital Spy. I'm afraid for me, though I still like the show, and still watch it now and then...it's gone from brilliant, to mediocre.

And I'll make one final comment...

...perhaps it's nearly time to call it a day and sign off while the show is still coming down from its peak.

Because the longer it continues...the more likely it is to suffer an agonising decline from mediocrity to something much worse. And I don't want that...I'm a fan of the show. I want it to retire with some dignity when it eventually does.

Same for Edmonds, though I consider him at the pinnacle of his career.

Just my view, there.

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

I would agree with some criticisms, the hour-long format does make the show drag out at times, and they sometimes desperate to keep the entertainment going too (Noel and his throwing people out for example )

However, i religiously visited the now-defunct ilovedealornodeal.co.uk site while it was up (That was one of the things that got me in British DoND) until it was left dormant in February 2011 and eventually shut down in September last year.

And i noticed a lot of digital spy-esque discussions on the games on that site, often criticising the show for having too many gimmicks. While i did agree with it sometimes, i thought the people on there went a bit OTT at times. The other thing that annoyed me about those people was the fact that they rarely said anything positive about the players - They called most players either boring or annoying, and usually only really complemented the players if they took big risks and played the game straight :? (i.e. no twists of any type. not even a future offer).

IMO, i would prefer the show to use twists SPARINGLY and not every other show, which i think is one of the reasons people stop watching

I do think that the show's reduced budget has added to the pain, instead of mixture of gamblers, cautious players, we now have a lot of cautious players that need money - some desperately - and usually deal at the first sign of good money, and if they DO play to the end, it's usually because of a poor board and stingy offers throughout :( , not that i have anything against it, but it does mean that there is less variety now. And variety is one thing that keeps the show alive

Not even a future offer? :?

Even as a purist of the game...I would actually call a hypothetical offer playing the game "straight", and properly. I think a hypo offer is necessary...I wonder where such criticism stemmed from?

I happen to agree with a lot of what you've said however Deal ( ;) ) will hold on to a large number of regular viewers for some time yet. With it playing such a huge role in daytime television at Channel 4 they'd be very foolish to cancel the show at this stage. It is hard to find a game show on television that can be broadcast almost every day of the week, all year round and be getting on for nearly a decade old. I put that largely down to the time of day it is broadcast and the fact that it is on all the time. If the show was only on once a week it probably wouldn't have lasted this long. You only have to look at Countdown to see these effects.

True, that.

Deal? Oh stop it. :-D

I agree it would be silly to drop the show, but I would much rather it goes while still near the top of its game...I don't think "raging against the dying of the light" would be good for....DoND ( ;) ).

The light is dying, though, I think that much is clear. Drip-by-drip...but I agree that it being on all the time has contributed to its longevity.

I mean, it's a constant, and as I found out, if you allow yourself to miss it once, that can snowball and you find yourself many moons behind everyone else.

Everyone else, at least, in the core group of maybe a million, 1.1-1.4 million people who are dedicated to it or at least watch it regularly. (As for new, first-time viewers? I don't think we'll see any increase in viewing figures in the future, I'll put it that way.).

As silly as it sounds this is a problem I have noticed. You miss a couple of a shows and then you wonder what on earth Noel is talking about (although this probably isn't too difficult for regular viewers either!). It's turning into a cult! :eyes:

Haha! Precisely. You find you're sidetracked by various other things, get back to...DoND ;) after a while and think "eh? What? Who are these people on the wings? Who's Waraporn?" And so on.

I have yet to find out what the rehabilitation process is like. That is, getting back into it. I've not bothered with that part for 5 years...

*Edit: I contradicted myself hugely in that post. Damn...

I think it's a dreadful parade of idiocy and should have had the plug pulled on it in 2008.
